Thanks to the ridiculous scrutiny referees get in the media we've now lost a quality referee. Very bad news for the Premier League. If Michael Oliver gets tempted away as well we are well and truly ****ed.
I don't think the scrutiny is anything to do with him leaving. I think it is pretty obvious to all why he has left haha
Pretty sure he has left for the money! Never liked Clattenburg as a ref, always thought he was hyped up. Far more interested in building his reputation off of the pitch then on it.
The Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has quit his job in England to take up a new position in Saudi Arabia, it has been announced. A statement from Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGGMOL) announced the decision of its highest-rated official, who was in charge of the finals of Euro 2016, the Champions League and FA Cup last season. "The PGMOL would like to wish Mark Clattenburg well as he prepares for his move to the Saudi Arabaian Football Federation," the statement said. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...-quits-premier-league-referee-take-job-saudi/ Poor Tom
He's a great ref who is always on the receiving end of abuse, I think that's more the reason why he's leaving, and of course money. He's made mistakes on the pitch as well as off it, but last season reffed the Champions League and Euro final. Will he still be a referee, or now a consultant..? Will he still be on the Fifa Listed refs, if so we may still see him reffing at tournaments?
Nothing to do with that. Clattenburg's rather public gripes are with the PGMOL. Also, he's gone because he'll be earning a **** tonne of money. Can't blame him...
I'm sure a gold plated Lambo might be the reason. He can replace his old car now. Will they let him use his number plate over there? What will he do if he can't take C19TTS to announce his arrival?
Can't blame him. Footballers chase a better pay packet and they have less need. Refs have a short earning life as well...good luck to him.
To quote clattenburg on Lallana, "You are very different now, since you've refereed big cup finals - you never used to be like this."
Agreed that those two are contributing factors. I do think the PGMOL needs new personnel. Mike Riley is not doing referees many favours with his methods.
Disappointed we've lost a top ref. There's not many refs of his standard around so it's certainly a big blow to the Premier League.
He's becoming the new head of Referee's over there (taking over from Howard Webb). So its not all about the money.
