Oh, so its all about increasing the professionalism in Saudi; that hub of world football and Howard Webb is doing a high profile job: sorry never knew he was there!

Sorry Tom: not buying this.... no offense meant

Some of the Prem refs are 50 years old. Not particularly short and get paid more than the average being.

Pitch inspections not needed for too much rain. Comments from commentator There's a camel on the pitch!

Everyone else will move up a step, and as an added bonus I can't remember any of their names.

What the Prem needs to do is allow foreign refs.

I'd like all our games to be refereed by the guy who did our first home Europa game. He was better than any ref in the Premier League. Even better than the Good Lord Clattenburg.

Martin Atkinson who did the 2nd Liverpool EFL game was excellent.

Referees need to earn more, particularly lower in the football pyramid. Most of the refs in the PL are earning between £40,000 and £120,000, with an average of around £70,000...good money, to be sure, but less than a week's wages for a great many of the players they are marshaling, in a job with a relatively short time at peak level. I'd probably jump at the chance to get very wealthy elsewhere, too.

And yeah, foreign referees wouldn't be a bad idea.

The news of his departure was leaked, probably by a whistle blower.

I never used to know referee's names, but they seem to think they deserve some kind of minor celebrity status now. At least I can start forgetting them again until the next "super ref" turns up. I appreciate that the game needs them, but they just need to be a bloke who knows the rules, can keep up with play and know how to blow a whistle.
