QPR left to lament killer three minute spell – full match report
Mon 18th Mar 2013 00:22 by Clive Whittingham
QPR came away from Villa Park on Saturday beaten and seven points adrift of the home side in the relegation battle. But they could so easily have won an end-to-end encounter that swung on a crucial spell just before half time.

Rarely has three minutes of football felt quite so significant.....

This is actually a very well worded and balanced account of what occurred at Villa Park.

3885 posts swords, you've probably written as much in your time as he has!

Here's a nice site that probably does manageable bite-size match reports for you: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/
It doesn't really go into depth about QPR at all, but then that's exactly what we want from pieces written about the football club isn't it! The less detail the better. Personal opinions from fans at the game aren't welcome. Just the key points in 100 characters will do please <ok>

edit: In all seriousness i thought this was a good writeup, and fairly short by clive standards. Quite Cathartic to read, i feel like i've made peace with saturday's result a bit more.

All my posts combined wouldn't be a big as one of his essays, I mean, articles!

The Sun does a great Soccer supplement on Sunday's and Monday's. Its unrivalled by any of the papers for sport IMO. I've been buying it for Donkeys years now, even though the rest of it is a rag. QPRNET is the place to go for a reasonable-sized match report I think. I just don't get why Whittingham doesn't edit it down a bit. Its detractory from the quality of the piece.

    What do you think Nines?

I don't go on any of the other QPR sites. I attempted to a few years ago but they just didn't seem to sit right with me. I know Finney and I know Clive, but the dedicated QPR sites are too clicky and far too measured for my tastes. There is also a lot of political in-fighting. This site suits my needs perfectly. I get to banter and read about the R's without getting too involved.
Although I've frequented Loftus Road for many a year, I like the fact that I can turn up and just go home anonymously. I meet up with my mates after the game, ( In the White Horse. ) We discuss the match over a pint and move on. I enjoy meeting up with other members on here though. We are all so alike. It's quite uncanny.

Clive gives a lot of thought to his posts and adds a dimension that you won't read anywhere else. He also seems to have an ability to reach into the psyche that only a QPR fan can empathise with. He does a great job Imo. We all need an insight into the game other than our own. Whether that comes from Clive, Col, Judo or any other post on here or article, it's all good in my book. If I feel the need to comment on it I shall. If not I will let it pass. If it's good it will organically grow and I may post on it further down the line.

    It's all good.

Wotcha Clive! How ye doing mate?

Nobody's forcing me to do anything, right enough. I was just proffering some constructive criticism, that's all.

Here, if you're talking to Northy, tell him we miss him and to get his ass back on here pronto.

To be honest I agreed with Northy's point on that thread.

It just seems odd to me that every time somebody links to one of my articles on here you reply with some comment about how long it is. Surely if you dislike the content that much just ignore it? I can't stand the X Factor personally, but I don't sit and watch it every Saturday complaining about it.

The articles are deliberately long. Obviously there are a lot of football sites out there and we thought perhaps there was a gap in the market for really long, in depth, considered copy. The page impressions the site generates and the feedback we get online and at the games suggests we were right. Opening one of our articles and saying "God it's a bit long isn't it?" is a bit like going to a QPR game and saying "God they're not very good are they?" It shouldn't come as a surprise. If it's not for you then I don't really understand what you get out of opening every single thread about the articles to complain about them. They're easily avoided.

The stuff about not having a life, not going out, liking the sound of my own voice, doing this out of vanity and whatever isn't really fair or called for is it? It's not constructive criticism. If you actually knew me you'd know how daft it is - I have an ego the size of a peanut. We're all QPR fans at the end of the day. Come down the Crown on a matchday, all the guys who help out and write stuff for LFW are there, same table every week, really nice people who are always happy to buy people a drink and have a chat. More than happy to get you a pint and have you take the pis out of me for a while if that's how you get your kicks :emoticon-0100-smile

Fair points there mate. Its obviously working for you so more luck with it.

Still, this is a message board and all things QPR are constantly discussed and that includes various people's articles. I'm not the only one who has commented on ego-trips and extremely long reports and its not been confined to your good self either. Its obviously not an opinion you would share, naturally enough. However, when people's articles are repeatedly posted up on a supporters forum inviting comment, comment is what they will receive. Its just the way these things work, that's all.

I'm not taking the piss out of you mate. I've never gone onto your website, facebook account etc. as I'm just not that interested. However, when things are posted up on this Site I reserve the right to comment no matter what the topic. Again, you're efforts are clearly working for you so mine and a few other's adverse comments about the length of your articles on this little MB won't make a blind bit of difference. If anything, you should be thanking me because you're articles get discussed every week. You know the old saying: no publicity is bad publicity.

    Best of luck.

I wouldn't take it personally Clive. Swords has an avant-garde sense of humour that doesn't always translate harmoniously onto message boards. I think the "christ this is a bit long isn't it?" comments were in the process of becoming a running joke, rather than a genuine objective assessment of each of your pieces. Fair play for calling him out on it though- i'd probably be frustrated too!

Check my post out again swords. The 'fair points' I referred to were in bold from your post and were Clives not yours. But hey don't let that interfere with the legendary status you have on here (in your own mind that is)
