Hull City's Sam Clucas and Harry Maguire are 'under consideration' for the next England squad please log in to view this image Hull City's Sam Clucas is now under consideration for an England call-up in summer, joining Harry Maguire in Gareth Southgate's thoughts. The Daily Mail reports that the England boss has sent scouts to watch the midfielder, as well as defender Maguire, in recent weeks, receiving positive feedback in return. Maguire has long been touted for an England call but was unlucky in March as Ben Gibson and Michael Keane were selected ahead of him. However, as his good form continues and the Tigers rise up the Premier League table, the defender is becoming hard to ignore, with many hoping he will become City's first ever England international. And it now appears Clucas has joined him on the peripheries of the national set up. Southgate was spotted at the Tigers' recent home game against West Ham United, a game in which the Tigers duo excelled and the report claims he could be arranging another visit to the KCOM Stadium before the end of the season. An international call-up would all but complete Clucas' rise up the footballing ladder to the very top after playing non-league football just five seasons ago, following in the footsteps of Jamie Vardy. However, the 26-year-old is no stranger to the international fold. Clucas represented England C – the non-league national team – in 2013. The Three Lions next meet up in June to take on Scotland at Hampden Park before travelling to Paris for a friendly against France. Speaking before facing Manchester City last week, Clucas admitted he would love to play for England but it is the last thing on his mind at the moment. "If people are touting me around for England then it's nice to hear but my only aim at the minute is on keeping Hull City in the Premier League," said Clucas. "I don't really read too much into it but it's nice to hear. It must mean I'm doing something right. The main goal at the minute is to keep playing well for Hull City. Who knows where it will take you?" http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/hull...0268764-detail/story.html#9r4sykhOQ4h3OJOA.99
Shouldn't every qualifying player starting regularly for his club side in the Premier League be under consideration?
What's your point? They've stood out and played really well. Players who don't play so well won't be "under consideration".
I've heard he doesn't really want to win anything and so will just be picking poor to average players as a result of this lack of ambition.
"Southgate sent scouts"? He was at the West Ham game. Was he just checking the Scouts turned up? Dib Dib Dib
Wonderful news, both players deserve it and it would be absolutely wonderful for Hull City to have a player (or two) represent the national team. Very inspiring that both players have worked their way up through the divisions.
As the next England fixtures do not take place until after the season finishes, I guarantee both of them will leave in the summer just before they're called up.
Ouch. On the news yesterday was a piece about a 50,000 waiting list of kids who want to join the scouts but a shortage of leaders is the problem. The heath and safety brigade and the ambulance chasing lawyers put many adults off giving up their own free time to get kid of their gadgets and teach them real life skills. Those who do give their free time should be applauded not vilified.
I'm not sure it's been discussed, but what sort of value does Clucas carry, especially if we stay up? Regulation £10m?
