I have been bouncing a competition idea around for some time now, and have involved our two erstwhile moderators to a degree, but it’s time I now floated this to the forum in general and canvas some opinions. The comp itself would be a usual one involving the terrestrial TV races – the difference being that I want to be able to offer prizes to the winners. The comp would be called Telly Addicts, and the prizes would be by way of film files or TV episodes from my library. Ideally they would be uploaded to my Dropbox account and the winner would get access to a film or programme of his own choosing, to download to their computer. (For the less technically minded – most modern TV’s of the last 4 years, say, have a USB socket and software to be able to read various formats, such as AVI, DivX, VLC etc You would therefore copy the file to a memory stick, plug into your TV USB socket and change the source on your TV remote control. ) In the event of Dropbox not being suitable for a particular winner, I’d be amenable to downloading to disk and posting out to their prize. You would obviously have to have your own Dropbox account to do this, but it is a free download. Much of my library is on disk format and without a file converter I can only burn a physical copy and mail it out, but a lot of newer stuff is on file If you have a poor opinion of file sharing, and some do, that’s ok – I won’t try to justify it, except to say that if you read a book then pass it to a friend, you are doing exactly the same! I will list below some of potential prizes, but I’d be like to hear your opinion on taking part or not. It would be a one-off competition, with one winner every week. Films: Fury, The Judge, Unbroken, Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Imitation Game, Inbetweeners 2, Expendables 1, 2 and 3, Dracula Untold, The Giver, Lucy, Now You See Me, The Equalizer. Older movies such as Black Hawk Down, Kill Bill Vols 1 and 2 and many more too much to list. (I may also be able to fulfil a request!) Boxsets: Broadwalk Empire, The Vikings, The Borgias, The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, CSI seasons 1-5, The Inbetweeners seasons 1 and 2 - and just for Dexter – You Rang M’Lord and Hi-De-Hi all seasons. Others again upon request. I need to know if it’s something you’d want to participate in so …… OK – lock n load, and let me have it!
I think I might give it a go from time to time Reebs, it sounds like a great idea. I'm with Stick though, when it comes to anything technical I have no hope. My wife said she was going to buy me a Samsung Galaxy, I was most disappointed when I didn't get a telescope. So if I manage to fluke a win, I'll forgo the prize.
Great idea Reebs and thanks for the thought but as a devout Luddite I'll do the same as Cyclonic - happy to compete when the chance presents itself but not that bothered about the prize
