Just a simple question is Bristol City FC and Steve Cotterill suffering from a form of control and corporate governance from... Bristol Sport and Co......? please log in to view this image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_governance
Probably, so if that is the case he may walk and then we would be in whole pile of the messy stuff. Perhaps the guff from on high isn't worth a hill of beans and we've all been fooled - who knows, certainly not me.
Suffering? The team is doing ok. Bristol Sport is under the control of Pula. Another company owned by Steve Lansdown.
We can only spend within certain limits whether we want to or not - FFP regulations ensure that However surely if that's the case we should be going for targets who want to play for us within those limits - e.g Bradshaw of Walsall, Dack of Gillingham etc If we went for those players they would have been here in June.
The same thing as if Andre Ward failed - buy someone else! It's crazy when you think about it, but that's how football works I guess?
Lansdown & Cotterill are the strength of this club - only a total idiot would suggest otherwise. But I think someone has made a serious miscalculation this summer. What would be nice is if the person responsible would admit he made a mistake in not actioning the funds for Cotts to do his job. After all, it would be the case in any work place I have been a part of. If our keeper makes a mess of a cross, he holds his hands up and apologises - then in the fullness of the season its forgotten.
This week could prove to be a turning point in our future, positive or otherwise. Decisions have to be made and apathy is no longer an option.
Mr Lansdown is spending forty million pounds on redeveloping the stadium. He was also prepared to authorise millions to be spent on Ward. These are sums of money never previously associated with Bristol City football clubs history. I have reservations over the ownership of Ashton Gate, but what appears to be the criticism of Steve Lansdown at present here is that the FC is not again spunking millions of pounds past its income. Bristol City is still in debt, debts have simply been restructured by Mr Lansdown. Given Bristol City's very recent abysmal performance financially, and that of 82 fans should be thinking about restraint and pragmatism versus witchunts because they have not got signings a, b , c and the results they want today and yesterday.
I have friends who boxed and I attend the odd fight hence I now think I had a senior moment and posted Ward as in Andre. You would not have to be Keith Burt to spot A/He would break the bank and B/ He doesn't play football.
Fair comments Clifton, but I wasn't suggesting a 'witch hunt'. I am aware (and extremely grateful for) the job Lansdown is doing for our club, but have been pulling out my hair since mid-May over the casual approach we have taken regarding recruitment for our squad. Operating at a squad list of 19 players (or so) is one thing in Div 1, but its another entirely for the Championship. My comments were not about spending 9 million on one player, or mortgaging ourselves into an early grave. They were about operating with a skeleton staff of 22 GOOD players. We were down to 17 fit pros up until the loan deals happened. Loans are, as you say, an expensive way forwards, but if Cotts had been given funds when he asked for them we may have ended up with a squad which was fighting the season at the other end of the table. Now the 'bounce' factor has been lost (you know, the one which served Southampton, Norwich, Bournemouth etc up from Div 1 to the Premiership) which we understood was where Lansdown wanted to take us. He must understand that speculating in the transfer market is all about timing. Surely our successes of last summer showed him that ? It is Lansdown's dream to take us to the big league, and a chance has been missed. Another chance (and we won't get too many)
