They don't believe football tickets should be more than 20 euro (15.50 pounds). They don't want the Bundesliga to go the way of the Premier League as they believe football should be watched on the terraces not in the pub or at home. Their spokesman was on talksport this afternoon and quite credibly argued that he believes football should be affordable to watch live for all fans not just the wealthy. When challenged on whether he'd accept the best players coming to England instead of Germany if his club couldn't compete for wages he said "Who care's if they win the Champions League if i can't afford to be at the games live"

They're all cheaper than ours, the average ticket price in the Bundesliga this season is £23, which is over £30 less than the average Premier League ticket price.

Even the tourists don't get ripped off if they know what they're doing, each week more than 2,000 British fans travel to see Borussia Dortmund, 1,500 Brits travel to St Pauli games in Hamburg and 1,000 Brits go to Union Berlin games, even including flights it's cheaper than going to a Premier League game.

Can you imagine fans here protesting if the ticket prices were £15.23 standing/£30.70 seated, as that's what ,most of the tickets were last night?

I understand what you are saying but I highly doubt that.

If people want to go watch a game and stand go to your local non league team. You can stand drink etc etc
Its just hipster cool bollocks all this Germany crap. Excuse me but arent you surrounded by arrogant ****ing Germans?? **** that.

Have you even been to Germany?!?

The German is a very humble person! I mean they've lost multiple world wars and they know it! They just want a simple life now chillaxing with standy up fussball and Sunday afternoons listening to David Hasselhof tunes.

It was cheaper for some lad to fly to Berlin then home than it was for him to get the train.

    So what?

You're still just cherry picking the prices and bits to suit yourself. Average prices? For what? Walk ups? People who pay to be in a club? How much does it cost to apply to be a season ticket holder? What do you get for being on a list?

Oh great, I'm guessing you don't consider the brits flying over for those games to be plastics either do you? You also seem to think the net cost of their trips is less than going to see, you know, a local team too. Don't you think those German clubs should be doing more to appeal to their local fans, and make it more accessible for them?

You can't image anyone protesting about ticket prices in Germany, in a thread that is mostly about...you know what, yeah, you're right. We're the victims. We're always the victims.

Why is it that the salaries paid to Baseball players in the MLB are broadly the same as the PL but you can get a ticket to the Yankees vs Red Sox (a tier 1 game) for as little as $20? From a (very) quick search their TV deal pays about $85m per team so less than the new PL deal.

As is often the case people quote the bits that suit, ie the cheapest prices. But they don't quote the others. Bayern Munich and Man Utd have roughly the same average crowds, 75,000. Man Utd's ticket receipts 88million, Bayern Munich 80.5 million. Man Utd though have 2 more home games. It stands to reason with even a moment's though about the mathematics that if there are a few thousand paying a lot less for the cheapest seats at Bayern then the others must be paying more on average than Man Utd to end up with virtually similar results.
Same with the atmosphere..Down to safe standing, beer being sold etc. But the changes of getting safe standing are slim (and who are vehemently opposed to that - Liverpool action groups) and of having beer sold on the terraces even slimmer. So basically some people would like to see the atmosphere of German games but stop the things that create that atmosphere in the first place.

You've completely misunderstood, the 2,000 English football fans aren't the same 2,000 people every week, they're fans of English clubs going on a jolly to check out what German football's like. You can book a package for £65, that includes travel, hotel and match ticket, you don't have to be a member of anything (5% of tickets for home games are allocated to tourists).

There are 55,000 season ticket holders at Dortmund, they pay on average £9 per game, you can add on any membership cost you like, add on the beer, add on the scarf, add of the shirt, whatever you add on it's a fraction of the cost here.

Bayern's gate receipts are much higher than any other club in Germany, they're bumped up by them having a very large and expensive corporate section. Despite Dortmund getting the biggest attendances in world football, their gate receipts are less than the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, who have half the attendance.

Safe standing will happen here, it's just a matter of time, but drinking won't and there's little prospect of us every generating the sort of atmosphere that's the norm in Germany.

For anyone who's interested, Bayern's cheapest standard adult season pass £104, their most expensive standard adult season pass £540 (38,000 pass-holders).

Membership costs - Adults £50, 18-25-year-olds £33 and concessions £25 each year (for this they get priority when booking tickets for home and away matches, a small discount on ticket prices, and a subscription to the matchday programme).

Which is fine, £540 works out at £32 per game, not unreasonable for that stadium and the standard of football. But the walk up prices still have to be on the high side to get up to the figure they do. Worth mentioning that the membership scheme with 250,000 members brings in£12,500,000, which is more than our total gate receipts for a season.

I quite agree that the German model is preferable to ours, just that sometimes people, especially in the media, tend to cherry pick the best parts.

But Barcelona, another club where the cheapest prices are often quoted have a larger income than .Bayern and virtually the same as Man .Utd despite getting on average crowds of 8,000 less than them.
As they say you can do anything with figures, statistics etc...

    The following factors may contribute:
    - Each MLB club plays 162 games per season which is roughly 4 X the number of games a PL team plays.
    - Average attendances are around 30,000.

38000 season tickets at a reasonable price, but how many members paying £50 a year on the waiting list? They're still paying extortionate prices for match day tickets, and will be waiting probably decades before they get their hands on a reasonable season ticket. How much will it hve cost in the end?

Like I said, try get yourself to a game in Germany. This is what the average fan will pay, one who hasn't spend hundreds on membership for years before being eligible for a season ticket.

The matchday ticket prices are obviously much higher than the season ticket prices (and you do have to be a member to get one, unless it's a tourist ticket), but seats range from £26 to £52 and standing is only £11, so they're still cheaper than here. Considering it's less than a pound a week to be a member, it doesn't make any significant difference to the ticket price if you go regularly.

Barcelona is a slightly different situation, they have around 10,000 tourists at every game and they screw them for the money, to keep their season ticket prices low. Though matchday tickets start at £33, there's very few at that price, most pay over £50, many over £100 if they pay on the day.

£100 would be considered cheap for a game against Real Madrid for the top priced tickets.

It is still a nice earner though. A pound a week off 250,000 people of whom over 200,000 can 't get a ticket.

I seem to recall an article where someone was trying to balance Dortmund's reported income with the ticket prices.
It stated their average price ticket was £45. If that is correct then when you allow for the low priced tickets to get to that average there must be a lot of tickets dearer than the equivalent at a lot of our clubs where the average is less than £45.
