    Nine bosses in total have left Championship clubs this season
    A vocal section of Bristol City fans are calling for manager Lee Johnson to be sacked.

    They believe this will help in the Robins desperate quest for survival, and a petition has been set up by one supporter calling for Johnson's departure.

    Nine bosses have been given their marching orders in the Championship this term.

    We take a look at what impact, if any, getting rid of their managers has had for those sides that have chosen to swing the axe this season.

    We've also crunched some numbers... so here it goes.

    Aston Villa
    The Midlands side were the first to dump their manager this season, getting rid of Champions League winner Roberto Di Matteo in October after winning just once in 11 games. Since appointing Steve Bruce as his replacement they enjoyed an immediate upturn in form, but are now on a run of six defeats from seven.

    Position now: 16th

    Cardiff City
    Cardiff were the next to swing the axe, relieving Paul Trollope of his duties in early October after an awful start saw them second bottom. With the experienced Neil Warnock called in to steady the ship, the Bluebirds have climbed the table to banish any lingering fears of relegation.

    Derby County
    The Rams split with Nigel Pearson by 'mutual consent' in October after the combustible boss had an explosive row with chairman Mel Morris after a poor start to the campaign. Former England manager Steve McClaren returned to Derby and has steered them into play-off contention.

    Rotherham United
    Alan Stubbs was sacked with Rotherham rock bottom of the Championship having collected just six points from 13 games. Kenny Jackett was brought in as his replacement on a three-year deal, but didn't fare any better, resigning after five games.

    Jackett was replaced by caretaker boss Paul Warne. The Millers remain rooted to the bottom of the league and are relegation certainties.

    Wolves
    Italian boss Walter Zenga was dismissed by Wolves after 14 matches with the side lying in 18th in the league, with Paul Lambert appointed in early November. Wolves have largely trod water since and are still looking over their shoulder, though they did enjoy an FA Cup win at Anfield.

    Wigan Athletic
    The Latics sacked Gary Caldwell with Wigan languishing in 23rd in the league, replacing the Scot with Warren Joyce. There was no major upturn in form and they remain in a major scrap for survival, though they are just two points from safety.

    Position now: 22nd

    Queens Park Rangers
    QPR dismissed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in November after an indifferent start to the season saw the R's lying in 17th. Ian Holloway was appointed as his replacement, with the team promptly losing six games in a row. They remain in trouble and are just five points clear of the bottom three.

    Birmingham City
    Birmingham City's new Chinese ownership group sacked Gary Rowett despite the Blues sitting just outside the playoffs, a move greeted with derision and bemusement in many quarters. They replaced him the same day with Gianfranco Zola, who failed to win in his first eight matches.

    Position now: 14th

    Nottingham Forest
    Forest were the latest club to hit the panic button, dumping Frenchman Philippe Montanier on the 14th January after a winless run of seven games. With Gary Brazil in place as caretaker manager, the Reds have picked up nine points from six matches since.

    Position now: 17th

    Points per game before sacking: 1

    Points per game after sacking: 1.5

    So, does sacking the manager work? The evidence from this season's Championship is inconclusive, with five teams climbing the table after swinging the axe and the rest remaining where they were or even falling further down the league.

    Some would no doubt argue it too big a risk to change manager at this crucial stage of the season.

    Others would respond that it is an even bigger risk to keep the manager who has presided over the Robin's worst ever losing run and has won two in 17.

    Some numbers have been crunched here so we have some facts, I've not asked about Johnson, I've asked about Bristol City FC and it's future, that is what's important, I've asked the question regardless of Johnson, it's up to Steve Lansdown.

    Relegation or Survival, where are we heading ?

    That list confirms to me by sacking the manager won't necessarily make us any better. Only NW has improved a side worth noting.
    Rather than sacking LJ, maybe bringing someone from outside the current management to overlook our situation would be better short term. (Rednapp as an example).
    I can't help it, but I still think we are close to being a really decent side with LJ, just think he's needs a little encouragement from someone who's been there and done it..

    Albiet with a game in hand though. I know that don't mean much given our current run but could prove well if and when we finally wake up.

    Good to see Hollowhead who was banded as a good manager showing QPR how good he is <laugh>

    We are now in the bottom 4 and possibly heading for disaster if things keep going this way. Interesting facts on managerial changes made by other teams but I think each situation offers different scenarios although it seems that most were fired due to poor performances which begs the question as to why Bristol City are not acting on a similar situation. The manager (head coach or whatever) is always the target when it comes to poor performances and historically that has always been the preferred method of retribution. Steve Lansdown has made it perfectly clear that he will stand by his man until the bitter end and, although that would be an admirable sentiment in slightly better times, I question the message that is being sent to the supporters and possibly the players.

    Goodness knows what isn't working and we are surely stabbing at darkness in trying to come up with our own answers as to what is going wrong, and to add extra pressure it seems we may have some injury issues to stir the mix even more. Skating away on the thin ice of a new day seems to sum up my thoughts.

    INTERESTING FEATURE .... THE 9 managers, but like everything else you need to equate to a level playing field and most of those facts are not

    eg... team sack manager after 30 games 29 pts 0 .967 pts )and replace him, after 36 games he has done well won 4 drew 1 and lost 1 ( 2.167 points)...... the level playing field = sacked manager had played top 8 teams away and 1 at home 5 of these games were in the last 6 fixtures ...... new manager = 4 home games w3 d1 all teams in bottom 8 2 away games won 1 lost 1 beat bottom team and lost against team in 3rd... is that a level comparison...NO readable article though......

    based on an almost hypothetical situation!

    Just a question of time about when we go into the bottom 3 rather than if-- Burton play again before us and could be 5 points clear. We have 2 games in hand, but we could easily come cast adrift

    I've gone for survival but only on the proviso we get a minimum of 4 points at Wigan and Blackburn.

    If we lose 3 points to Fulham, I wonder will Johnson survive or get the boot, how much more will Lansdown make us endure.
