10.13 A spokesman for the club has just said it is unlikely Jordan Rhodes will be leaving 'boro - Sky Sports
Didn't need someone from our club telling us the most blindingly obvious. No idea why people are suggesting him. You might as well be saying "get Bony in" or "Loic Remy has to be the target". So unrealistic it's beyond silly.
Grabban seems to be the more serious of any rumours today and we are in competition with that one- Wait and see with interest. We are acting in a much more positive way as a club and it wouldn't surprise me yet if some big deal came in-
Taking the silly money for Kodjia is one thing. Getting a replacement for him that isn't preferably another loan deal, and getting in someone who fits the bill and can do the job, and all by Midnight, is the big challenge today !
Why silly ? We have money to spend And it was a spokesman for Middlesboro that made the comment, not us
I'd like to think that we would've had possibilities lined up and a ways down the road before the Kodjia sale was concluded, so I'm expecting a somewhat big transfer confirmed, as well as this young Swedish striker (who on paper seems a good prospect by the way). Though I agree that preferably it wouldn't be another loan signing, I also wouldn't want us to overspend on a target that doesn't fit the bill, just because we have the cash - in doing so, we would have weakened ourselves and significantly reduced the cash benefit from the sale. Personally (and hypothetically), if I were asked if I'd prefer to sign Lewis Grabban for £6m permanantly, or get Jordan Rhodes on loan this season, with a view to signing a permanant replacement in January/next year, I think I'd go for the latter...
If management can pull off a coup with any signings today then we could be in for more exciting times. They'd surely have had a deal lined up before letting JK go, at least you'd hope. Lots of transfer business being done by other Championship clubs though.
'They'd surely have had a deal lined up before letting JK go' Lansdown's interview on the first day of the season said it all for me. He knew then Kodija was 99% certain to leave and did a brilliant job talking the transfer fee up. First time ever that I'm excited about Transfer Deadline Day.
Jordan Rhodes would be the icing on the cake if it were to happen. That would be a massive signing and shows the championship BCFC mean business.
I did only use him as an example of a loan. As much as you'd love it to happen, I struggle to believe it can be done - particularly given that even this morning Middlesbrough released a statement saying that he's unlikely to move...
Oh dear - we will be in danger of being the richest club without a squad at this rate. There is a debate about who is better - Pack or Smith, but they are both first team players and this worries me greatly.
All ok moving Pack on, providing the cavalry are coming over the hill to replace him, Kodjia and possibly Flint.
