Big test ahead for city at Derby. Amazing if we snuck a win eh pals? Derby County midfield trio Bradley Johnson, Craig Bryson and Will Hughes are all injury concerns for their game against Cardiff on Tuesday. David Nugent is awaiting his full Rams debut while Johnny Russell, Ikechi Anya and Jacob Butterfield all could start. Cardiff will be without defenders Lee Peltier, who has had ankle surgery and Bruno Manga who has a knee injury. Meanwhile, Rickie Lambert will hope to start after coming on as a substitute in Cardiff's 2-0 win against Leeds. Match facts Derby have won three of their last four league meetings with Cardiff (L1). Cardiff haven't won away at Derby since November 2011 under Malky Mackay (D2 L1 since). Of the league goals Derby have conceded since Steve McClaren returned as manager, 20% came in the first half of their last game against Bristol City (3 of 15). Cardiff kept a clean sheet in their last away league game at Leeds but haven't kept consecutive away clean sheets since October 2015. Hey, folks saw this and thought of you:
City never play the same X1! I expect the odd tweak as Derby are more offensive than Leeds and will be going all out for the win.
I can't honestly see what Warnock can change. Back 5 (including Halford) must be on again with Gunnar and Ralls in the middle. Both Noone and Harris had good games attacking and defensively against Leeds and Zohore should start in preference to Lambert. Maybe Hoilett should have a shout ,but who do you drop? Whitts looks to me to be out in the cold when it comes to Warnock's away game defensive set up. Maybe he'll get a chance off the bench if it goes tits up early on tonight, otherwise he might have to wait for the Rotherham game on Saturday. Any change tonight should be a forced one unless he rates Hoilett a better shot that either Noone or Harris to start - personally I wouldn't
Looks like Kadeem taking them on, on his own. At least we are back in with a shout after an awful start.
Warnock deserves massive credit for winning that game rather than trying not to lose. He got what he deserved for introducing Healey for Halford. I only listened on player but Halford sounded excellent.
Words I'd never thought I'd read on this forum Can't get enough of Noones goal, and nice to see Harris finish some chances
He's taken a fair bit of stick on here already. He sounded like just the sort of destroyer we needed in midfield yesterday. Winning it back and using it intelligently. Tan must be taking notice of the job Warnock is doing on an absolute shoe string budget. A small gamble of investment and he could have us as serious contenders. He must be bordering on playoff form since he arrived. The performances he's getting from previously fringe/unwanted players is very impressive.
Absolutely magnificent win! Credit goes to Warnock for his determination to win the game. I dread to think what the scoreline would have been if we had another manager!
Quiz Time 1. When did we last score 4 away from home? 2. When did we last score 4 anywhere in a competitive game? 3. When did we last concede 3 and still win? I think I know the answer to one of these but not all. No prizes, just a bit of a memory test on a feel good day.
I'll have a think about that one in a minute Bluey, but about last nights game........... Couldn't listen to the game so will have to wait for the vids - all I've seen this morning is the result. Massive credit to Warnock and the side for coming back like that - a truly gutsy victory that would never have happened under Slade or Trollope. On the Halford subject, you can only speak as you feel about players and he doesn't seem right for me other than a stopgap for now. I'll accept what's been said about him last night and him and Gunnar seem to be the right combo in front of our back 4. If we can beat Leeds and Derby away with that setup, I'd imagine Rotherham and Fulham at home up next will be a doddle.....
***SPOILERS, DON'T LOOK IF YOU WANT TO GIVE IT A CRACK YOURSELF** 1. OK, what's all this about Halford playing well? I just read a few reports on the game and it doesn't look like that to me. Apart from only getting a "6" rating, there were a couple of comments as well. "Alex Pearce rose higher than the Cardiff skipper and Allan McGregor soon saw his hard work to make an eye-catching initial save go to waste; de Sart was alert to the rebound, marker Halford was not." "Greg Halford did little to protect the defence, watching as Will Hughes was teed up to try and make it three as Ince toyed with disinterested tackling" Taking nothing away from a tremendous victory last night but FFS we let in 3 goals through poor defending and Halford was part of that.
