Dutch football body opposes winter World Cup, calls for Qatar rethink Sport February 25, 2015 The Dutch football association KNVB believes the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar should be reconsidered now a Fifa committee has recommended shifting the event to November and December. In a statement, the KNVB said it had already made its opposition to a winter World Cup plain. Furthermore, as the Qatar bid is based on a summer World Cup ‘the KNVB believes that such as change in the basic conditions requires a reconsideration of the decision to give Qatar the contract’. The KNVB is now looking at the likely impact the recommendation to move the World Cup to the winter will have on the Dutch national competition and on European competitions. Tuesday’s recommendation is expected to be ratified by Fifa’s executive committee in Zurich on March 19 and 20. A move will have considerable impact on the Dutch Eredivisie, which tends to break for the winter in mid December.

Excellent news ........... as a major footballing nation the Dutch have some clout.

Good, I know everyone but the Quatari's, Zidane and Fifa feel this way but still it takes some balls to officially oppose it. Hopefully a lot of people come out in support of them.

Might not be long before others start following suit.
I`d love to see Blatter come unstuck.

"A Fifa taskforce has recommended the 2022 World Cup take place in winter to avoid Qatar's hot summer temperatures."

It took a task force, no doubt costing tens of thousands, to work out that it's too hot to play football there in the summer.

    Dear God <doh> I could cry ..........

The thing that gets me is that the bidding was for a traditional summer world cup, its now not gonna be so fifa should be refunding every nations campaign money, they've missold the whole thing

Fifa secretary-general Jerome Valcke: 'You have time to reorganise'

Fifa says it will not pay compensation to clubs and leagues unhappy about plans to play the 2022 Qatar World Cup in November and December.

Fifa secretary-general Jerome Valcke said countries had enough time to reorganise ahead of the football competition.

How can anyone reorganise when, at this stage, only ONE country has actually qualified .......... the one that bought the competition <doh>

I hate using the expression but this bloke is thick .......... unless, of course, FIFA have already decided who'll be qualifying <whistle>

Realistically Smug, this will just be for Dutch domestic public consumption only. It's all just local politics.

They'll eventually bend over and take one up the jacksie like everybody else has. The fact that EUFA have already taken one up the arse and backed FIFA means they'll have no support from their governing body when it comes to the crunch.

It all just stinks to high heaven, but everybody will eventually buckle under.

Too many people, all over the world, in so many different organisations, have had their palms crossed with silver.

    It just stinks!

I'm not sure, weren't the dutch vocal in backing a competitor for the Fifa presidency?

I think they might be kicking up a fuss, hoping their chosen candidate gets in and shakes stuff up/moves the WC.

It'll be too little too late Disco. Voting will already be bought and paid for. No ones gonna upset the apple cart now. Too much money involved.

You could be right, I sincerely hope you're not and that it's moved to Aus.
