Mitro Perez cisse and Armstrong should be enough for firepower. From out and out strikers anyways. We need more goals from midfield and defence. Blowing 10 million on gayle is a bug no for me.
Article from the Mag: Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for attacking player Dwight Gayle. Sky Sports report that the 25 year old will arrive on Tyneside today to complete his medical, with the deal set to be finalised on Thursday. Early on Wednesday there were claims that Dwight Gayle had agreed personal terms and now he is set to be Newcastle’s second signing this week, as well as also the second of the Rafa Benitez reign. Matz Sels was unveiled by Newcastle on Wednesday, the keeper signing a five year deal and the clubs agreeing a reported fee of just under £5m. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image News of Dwight Gayle’s imminent arrival comes as speculation intensifies on Andros Townsend heading the other way. If the Newcastle winger decides to leave, United will be powerless to stop him after a release clause was included in the contract agreed in January. Dwight Gayle can play through the middle and up front, the kind of versatile player that could be ideal in the Championship and potentially teh Premier League if United bounce straight back. Earlier we featured a very interesting article with quotes from Crystal Palace fans on their thinking of Dwight Gayle potentially moving to Newcastle United, read that
Sorry but I don't rate him. He has an engine on home but his shooting accuracy is found wanting as evidenced by his poor goals ratio.
He was explosive at Peterborough, but Kemar Roofe of Oxford looks better. As does Adam Armstrong of Coventry. Oh, wait....
not a bad little player ..i think hungry young full of energy . dont think he played that much last season ..but no way 10 million
He's here. Landed at Newcastle Airport about an hour ago. It's not linked to a deal for Townsend...well that's what I understand.
His injury record is definitely a worry, hopefully he'll be like Carroll and boss it in the Champ despite injuries in the Prem. Is this really one of Rafa's main targets? Hardly filled with optimism if so, 10 mil for a Palace reject is ludicrous, they should pay us a fortune for Townsend if we're doing this for them.
I expect the fee will plateau around about £6m ish. It's already dropped to £8m from £10m in some outlets. What choices do we have? We're in the Championship for goodness sake. It's not like Vardy or Deeney had better goals ratios or a more illustrious upbringing. I think it's linked to England's failure - our pampered top flight players lack the grit and determination to succeed. We've gone for a lad who probably could have done with an extra year in the Championship, but he's not going to be worse for his time in the top flight.
Mitro is Carroll, Gayle/Perez will be Lovenkrands. Which begs the question what's happening to Cisse? Moving on hopefully.
