Just received my email as well - its great to feel loved and wanted. From previous comments I thought Lee was a rotund balding bloke but he looks very like Georginio Wijnaldum. I want to hear next from Mike Ashley himself (and not just the emails from the club about whats on sale from his shop this week)

As Heed says that is a long email to get through.

But I think there is one key message coming through loud and clear from that first post that we should all take note of. ..

Difficult to criticise not only this email but the club in general this summer.

They said they'd spend the profits - They have.
They'd said we'd target a trophy - They have (Strong line up against a League 2 side)
They said they'd communicate better and more frequently - They have.

I don't think there was any need to quote the exact amount spent, however it's clear from this email and McClaren's interview last week that we'll be busy in the next two windows too. I think we'll get a minimum of one signing January (probably 2 two though) and then 3-4 in the summer window. You can't knock it. Yes we need another 4-6 to be top eight, but we were never going to sign 8-10 players in one window for over 100m.

We've had tough games and competed well in all bar one (Swansea) and are a point better off from the corresponding fixtures last year. No complaints from me so far.

I can't argue with it. Terrific e-mail for me. Positive for the rest of the season.
All I am going to say - Those that said that the protests/ boycotts didn't work. Clearly, they did as the improved communication is a result of the protests. In that regard, they did their job.

Got to say I love getting these emails!

Agree with most, the club is coming good on its promises, spending and communicating and the fans are responding! Wish I'd been at St James' last Saturday haven't heard the crowd like that for a while!

Looking forward to the rest of the season after the hard start we've had. Not to worried about the first couple of games, we look, finally, more solid at the back and we will be hard to beat home or away this year. If we can get a bit more going forwards I don't doubt a top 10 finish, top 8 and a trophy might be pushing it but nothing wrong with aiming high.

One thing sticking out for me is the £9m extra on the wage bill. Given that savings have been made on Jonas, Raylor, Santon and Ferreyra (say £80k per week the lot or £4.0m pa) then the new guys must be costing an extra £13m pa or £62.5k per week on average each which seems high.

I know a few will have signed new contracts (Colo) but these are unlikely to have added much to the wage bill and I've ignored Toney as he's unlikely to be on that much.

    Have I missed something?

I don't really care about emails etc. I think I noted this at the time when people were wanging on about communication. I'm not too needy in this regard.

    Positives

    • I simply expect the club to spend the money required to be competitive. They've done that. They are trying regardless what I may think of how they've gone about it.
    • We've also begun having a go in the cup.
    • The team on the pitch is trying.
    • There is not some petty misplaced crusade against the management.
    • Atmosphere in the ground has improved

    Negatives
    • Lack of investment in home grown talent. Could come back to bite us.
    • I think they've gone about it a bit skewed - i.e. start at the freaking back, it was our weakest area for 5 years

Should be under the positives alongside Anita who is beginning to improve with decent coaching and playing time - obviously he won't become a worldie overnight but he is improving!

Does nobody find it a bit suspect that your owner lost his power struggle with Rangers then decided to finally wake up and plough all this cash into Newcastle, this 50m being only the start if reports are to be believed?

I can't put my finger on a link so maybe it's just coincidence.

No he is exactly where he should be . I can't really blame the board though - apart form not signing a left back which is a glaring error. Perhaps the one we want we couldn't agree with the club. I am comforted by the links like Guerreiro, it means McClaren has also identified the problem area. So probably doesn't belong on the list as it is likely the board are trying to stop him hurting my eyes with his ridiculous attempts at being a PL footballer.

The problem is if we are in the relegation zone in January people would want silly money in wages and clubs would pull our eyes out.
