Watched some of the End of an Era DVD again today and it brought back some great memories of Boothferry Park. The things Britton achieved in the 60's was nothing of remarkable and part of me wishes I was around back then to see the Tigers at Boothferry Park when it was at its best. In some respects when you compare the club to how it was in the 1980's and 1990's you could ask where it all went wrong. Some of the attendances back then of around 30,000 week in week out was amazing and shows just what can happen when things go well. It also showed how ficckle we are when in the 1970's just before Terry Neill got the sack we were only getting 5-6k through the gates.
I know how you feel mate, very sad when it came down, very sad indeed, ok it was falling apart but i grew up going there and have tons of great memories including a few sad! please view my page and relive to your hearts content http://www.youtube.com/user/BoothferryLegend35
The season Terry Neill came in (70/71) we averaged around the 20,000 mark but our form fell away badly after winning the Battle of Bramall Lane shortly after losing at home to Stoke in the FA Cup 6th Round to finish 5th. We then sold Chillo to Coventry and almost got relegated the season after. Crowds were certainly more fickle those days. Terry Neill didn't get the sack he quit to manage Spurs and left the Club (which by now was skint) in the hands of John Kaye - Harold Needler sadly died and for the next 8 years or so so did the Club. Boothferry Park in the middle to late 60's was a beautiful ground but had little or no real investment for the remainder of its life.
If we can get sentimental over leaving a ground where a lot of us only saw the side as a **** 3rd/4th division side who kept having money troubles then I can't see why not. For starters it's the first ground we secured back to back promotions in (there was a season between the two in the 80s wasn't there?), and it's the first ground we played top flight football in.
I think once we're in our 60,000 seater stadium, having just won the Champions League, many of us will look back fondly at little old KC.
No, that's the way I dance at home. I didn't come to London until this morning, so I'll be doing that in Wembley tonight, as I'm at a party in Piccadilly later(having to miss the game, I'm gutted).
I feel sentimental about the KC now, when we drive into Hull and see the stadium it's a lovely feeling.
So, going to some Froggie coffee shop! Hmmmmmmmmmm, best have a few before hand, and take a couple of hip flasks Seriously though, hope you enjoy your night, it is a success, and, we walk away with all 3 points
