One swallow does not make a summer, but an excellent start to the "new era of English ODI cricket" England beat New Zealand by 210 runs England 408 for 9 (Buttler 129, Root 104, Rashid 69, Morgan 50, Boult 4-55) - New Zealand 198 (Taylor 57, Finn 4-35, Rashid 4-55)
Another great game, but sadly ruined at the end by ****upworth Lewis. England have been transformed overnight. It's amazing what wonders a change of mindset can do - and a policy to select the players best suited to this form of the game.
I was enjoying that. A mate called round when the rain was on so I missed the ending.... ****e way for England to get beat. Some run chase though.
Another fantastic game at the Oval - perhaps the "new England" might be working?? New Zealand beat England by 13 runs - D/L method New Zealand 398 for 5 (Taylor 119*, Williamson 93, Guptill 50) - England 365 for 9 (Morgan 88, Hales 54, N McCullum 3-86)
Chris Jordan and Liam Plunkett will miss the rest of England's one-day series with New Zealand through injury. All-rounder Jordan hurt his side in Friday's 13-run defeat at The Oval that levelled the five-match series at 1-1. Uncapped Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton, 21, has been added to the squad for Sunday's third ODI in Southampton as cover for Jordan. Fast bowler Plunkett has a thigh strain and a decision on who will replace him is expected to be made on Sunday.
New Zealand beat England by three wickets in the 3rd ODI in Southampton New Zealand 306 for 7 (Williamson 118, Taylor 110, Willey 3-69) - England 302 (Morgan 71, Stokes 68, Root 54, Southee 3-44, Wheeler 3-63) New Zealand lead series 2-1
England got slated for not batting the last five overs. Perhaps Stokes showed have reined in the shots a little when the wickets were tumbling, but he was batting with Willey (who opens for Northants in T20). Surely you keep going if you feel in form? It's also ironic that England get criticised for posting 300+. Old England would have tried to get to 190-200 for 3 after 40 overs and been delighted to finish with 280-290. Yesterday, they were playing like new England and wanted 350 instead. I know which I prefer.
England have called up Somerset fast bowler Jamie Overton to their ODI squad for the remaining two ODIs against New Zealand. Jamie joins his brother Craig in the squad and presents the prospect of England fielding twins in the same match for the first time.
They do say in ODI cricket, double the score you're on after 30 overs to get an estimate of your likely total. Unfortunately NZ's measly 349 is going to deny us the chance to reach a world record 476. #cricketisdead
England beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the 4th ODI at Trent Bridge England 350 for 3 (Morgan 113, Root 106*, Hales 67) - New Zealand 349 for 7 (Williamson 90, Elliott 55*, Guptill 53) Series level at 2-2 England entered what for them was uncharted territory when they successfully chased a target of 350 against New Zealand in the fourth Royal London ODI at Trent Bridge. It was the fourth-highest chase ever and came in England, which traditionally has not offered up such gifts readily. And they did not just chase it, they marmalised it. A seven-wicket came up with indecent haste with six overs to spare. What is going on?
England Squad for T20 Eoin Morgan (capt), Sam Billings, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, James Vince, David Willey, Mark Wood
England beat New Zealand by three wickets (D/L method) in the 5th ODI at Chester-le-Street England 192 for 7 (Bairstow 83*, Santner 3-31) - New Zealand 283 for 9 (Guptill 67, Williamson 50, Stokes 3-52) England win series 3-2
