Conversely Ballance reviewed his lbw when it was just about plum. England now 82-4 at lunch with a lot of improvement needed in the next two sessions.
Poor shot from Cook ... Should not have been given out, pitching outside leg and not hitting the stumps ... Philander the SA quickie is a very talented bowler.
That went well..... New Skip wins toss - tick Chooses to bat first - tick First session collapse - tick Tourist bowlers on fire at Lords - tick Same old, same old.........this is some stat courtesy of bbc text..... "Over the last three years, in 64 innings, England have lost their third wicket at 55 or lower 23 times" Maybe we should simply start the innings at 50/3.....
Same again first 4 we've got to sort out except, don't why ballance was brought back as never hit off for England, Jennings stupid not to review,
The afternoon ship steadying session has been a good one for Stokes and Capt Root who have put on a 101 partnership. 177-4
292-5, Root scores vitually half the total. Top order still suspect, Ballance definitely isn't the answer...
**** me. Root stumped off a no-ball! How the **** can a spinner bowl a no-ball? 150 now for Root, having been given 3 lived by the SAs.
News Flash! Reporter Didley Squat live from Oz. "........ and there will be NO Ashes series played this summer."
Amazing what a great captain can do for a team and show leadership, guts and fight from the front. Can we have one please?
458. Not a bad total given the start. Great knock by root, and nice by Stokes, Ali and Broad as well. Interesting stat - Ali is 2 wickets away from becoming the second quickest England test player to reach 2000 runs and 100 wickets, in his 38th test. Only Tong Grieg (37 tests) will have been quicker if he gets there.
Game has moved on quickly, to score 450+ in less than 4 sessions is some going especially having been 84/4 at end of 1st session. Brilliant knock from Skip and ably supported by Stokes & Moeen with Broad doing a fine cameo at the end despite being like Bambi on ice with the short balls, that smack in the face a few years ago has totally buggered up his confidence against short deliveries, hardly surprising though. A few wickets before tea would put the Saffers under a bit of pressure.......
SA 169/4 with a bit of a recovery from Bavuma & De Bruyn. England not allowing the scoring rate to go much above 3 an over compared to their run rate of over 4, so decent pressure being applied. A couple of more wickets tonight and England can be well satisfied with their days work.....
