Don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else. Went in thru F turnstiles at about 3ish (bit blurry do to alcohol intake outside). We'd had a pint inside then went back for another one. As we did, the tannoys towards G turnstiles started saying 'This is an emergency please evacuate the stadium'. At first nothing really happened, a few stewards stood about listening to the repeats but taking no action. A few City went over to G turnstiles asking stewards who were frisking people what to do. Maybe 20/30 had gathered by the turnstiles asking to get out, but with people still coming in. Again nothing happened. Then some people started coming out of the seats (mainly families with kids) and headed to the gates. Still nothing happened. Then the announcement went off, and like nothing happened, errrrr well nothing happened.
I just heard an announcement saying 'We are not evacuating the stadium' or similar, which seemed v strange and almost designed to provoke panic - given we hadn't heard the first announcement. We went in G but were probably drinking between F and G at the time.
We got asked by stewards to leave as the stadium was entering full evacuation mode. This was during the kids cup final Derby v Ipswich. By the time we got to the top of the stairs he'd changed his mind and said it was a false alarm. Something about something on fire or Smoking.
There was an empty row of seats in front of me, about 15 mins into the game a bunch of likely lads appeared from nowhere and occupied them. One of them lit up, the stewards had them all out within seconds. They didn't seem to be football fans at all.
