Why is Borini regularly described as being a striker?

His stats say he gets about 1 in 5 games.
So if he's a striker, he's not a very good one.

His main attribute is his energy and enthusiasm, plus he takes a good penalty.
But, sadly, his overall contribution to the Team is not what we need.

So if a good offer is on the table AND we can improve the Team with that cash, it's a no-brainer.

Agreed. There will be other options available in the next 10 days or so. With cash in hand.

Was thinking about when teams are eliminated in the earlier rounds.

My bafflement in that has nowt to do with his goal scoring record, more with the fact he's only played as a striker 9 time in 77 games for us.

I think he still views himself as an out and out striker as well. Sure I remember him saying that when he signed for us.

He's no where near clinical or clever enough to play there IMO. Best off as an inside forward cutting in and causing problems and he's barely done that at all this season.

1 in 4.8 from a wide position is more than decent though. The last 6 games could just be a big rusty slump in form.

Aye, it's not like he's the only one who's not performing. Could be a multitude of reasons including tactics, fitness etc.

I like him, and would rather keep him, but if he has to be sacrificed in order to get in 2 players who will help then so be it.

More the fact we're debating selling assets to fund new ones is the bigger issue.

Yeah but the next step from Relegation fodder is the selling club as Southampton have found out. Even if we progress, selling our best players is something we'll have to put up with. The squad is small and week but we do actually have a lot of salable assets.(Not saying we should sell these) Borini, Defoe, Khazri, PVA, Kone, Pickford, Watmore. There must be 80m worth of assets there, Signs are that our Recruitment and academy has improved significantly and with that comes interest. Damn Short letting the squad get too thin. That's from patching with loans. here's the 13/14 squad. Scary lack of salable assets.

Providing we sign well it doesn't have to be a disaster losing good players, well, Defoe and Pickford aside who can't go anywhere at the moment.

And what we'd all give to be in a similar position to Southampton!!

What I meant was more the fact that it's our last chance saloon selling our assets just to scrape by.

Agreed on Short, as it's blatantly clear that he's the root of this.

If he does go i hope we have an option to bring him back for any games we might have with the mags in the future.

oh defo, agree 100%, just adding with the fact we finally had the foundations to build on, A classy midfielder who uses the ball well and some all round strengthening and we'd have been well in business this season adding value to the whole squad. Instead we've got this. Lost his bottle at a critical time and left us right on our arse. We'd be in a position to listen to offers and keep evolving had he had the nuts. We'll go nowhere but stand still or go backwards with this attitude to the club. :(

Yeah, i do like the lad but if it means sacrificing him to bring in someone else to help build a better team then i'm all for it.

He hasnt/isnt living up to expectations. A good game here and there doesnt cut it.

I still think he is one of the better players (doesnt mean much). But for some reason its not really happening for him at the club.

I like him as well mate, serious grafter but he has just struggled to make the impact that a player of his talent should. I'm not saying it's his fault btw, could be the system, injuries, etc, etc, but he just hasn't been an impact and of all the scalable assets we have, he is probably the most obvious choice to go.

This season apart I think he's been fantastic. 1 in 5 from out wide is a good ratio. I don't why people complain about his goals tbh. It's his creativity and use of the ball I'd like him to improve on, then we'd have a serious player on our hands
