Currently watching Born Free on Sky Movies and remembering why I loved this film as a kid. My Old Man worked for Essoldo Cinemas when I was young and as we got free entry to all Essoldo Cinemas I used to go to the cinema at least once a week and throw in being an ABC Minor on Saturday mornings and I seemed to spend a large chunk of my time watching the big screen.

Anyway what films did you lot like as kids which in today's cynical world might now seem slightly cheesy?

As a kid I used to love all the 1970s horror movies. Most of them look titally crap now.

I also used to like the big epics on Sunday afternoons, like Ben Hur, Spartacus, Zulu, El Cid, etc. Although I still think some of those are quality now.

Then there were all the Westerns. Too many to mention.

Born Free was one of my favourite films as a nipper. Another was Ring of Bright Water (same lead actors), and Kez. I used to love all of the wildlife stuff like that. As a teen my first real fave film was Gregory's Girl. I fell head over heels in love with Clare Grogan.

Standout cinema moment as a kid was the birthday treat, saw The Italian Job when it was first released, Jungle Book, Diamonds Are Forever was my favourite Bond movie then, at home black and white TV until about 1975 when the old B&W went up in smoke and we finally got a colour TV, used to rent TV's then ours came from DER. Best thing as a kid in the late 60's and early 70's was the Christmas TV and always the big blockbuster movie on Christmas day, the westerns with John Wayne were like others a favourite and will still sit down and watch them now even though I've seen them so many times.

Forgot Smokey and the Bandit II. Not a great film at all but we must have recorded it off the telly and me and my brother watched it over and over. Just us lapping up more Americana I guess.

Having older brothers when I was a nipper in the 70s meant I got to see the Monty Python films at a young age. Still love them now.

Other childhood faves include The Great Escape, Time Bandits, Blazing Saddles and of course...STAR WARS
