Probably true, but given they just received £14m for Assombalonga - think we should be holding out for more - especially in today's market.
I'm choosing to trust we have a striker in the pipeline. Going in to the season with Gayle is fine (I actually think he'll do ok) but our back-up options don't inspire confidence and I thought Murphy generally looked sharper than Mitrovic. Perez is ok but over-rated. If Gayle gets injured we're in huge trouble; £2m for Murphy isn't much money if we don't get a replacement in - I'd prefer to keep him. We will see...
I'm sure there's some big scheme in the offing. We can't be binning off 2 of our 3 strikers without something happening.
Got to be happy, job done. 4m paid, 2m recouped and he contributed exactly what we needed last year. Some may have scoffed at the cost last year, they have been proven completely wrong. I think we have to assume a striker will definitely be incoming if this is happening. Again that's all good because we need to keep progressing. The fact Abraham was a target but we weren't willing to guarantee first team football suggests we are simply looking for direct competition for Gayle, Perez and Mitro. Which we will need because that is nowhere near enough.
I'd like to think the Morata deal might open a door somewhere in West London....Batshuayi really happy playing second fiddle again?
Best of luck to Murph. I'm gutted to see him go. I wanted him off the bench this season. However a 3 year deal at 34 is very good for him so you can't blame him. He did exactly what was required last season and put himself in the window for a decent contract.
