The Commitments is one of my favourite films Billy, I can't believe that Andrew Strong, the lead singer, was only 16 when they made the film. The music is right up my street and the humour is hilarious
Likewise, I will pm you next week and bring you up to date with things.. Now don't you go plucking them strings to much & remember Sarah..
Jimmy Rabbitte: [pretending to be Terry Wogan] So, lookin' back Jimmy, what have you learned from your experience with The Commitments? Jimmy Rabbitte: Well, that's a tricky question, Terry. But as I always say, we skipped the light fandango, turned cartweels 'cross the floor. I was feelin' kinda seasick, but the crowd called out for more. Jimmy Rabbitte: [pretending to be Terry Wogan] That's very profound Jimmy! What does it mean? Jimmy Rabbitte: I'm ****ed if I know,Terry! Jimmy Rabbitte: "Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud".
Lol, it's funny as **** isn't it? "I saw the crowd & thought you were selling drugs" And that bloke with the moped - shagged all them Irish lasses, dorty owld bassa - brilliant film.
"Generation War" is shown on YouTube free films as I just recently watched it. Lived with the Germans for 6 years and had many a night with the old stagers who had started with the Hitler Youth and as one of them put it marched proudly into ****.
I'll fight Manny being an ex-boxer, the winner buys the chinese and washes up.. If he's not game for that, then I'll wash up as long as he makes the brew.. Seriously, didn't watch, don't no more but glad you enjoyed mate. Maybe a O/T thread would have been better..
Apologies again, I now realise you are talking about a fekkin film, aaaaaargh. I will save face here, I will fight the cameraman and boom operator both together then torch the directors chair.. How's that for a finale..
Can't believe I've missed this thread, love a good film!! Grand Budapest Hotel as already mentioned was a strange arty film but it crept under my skin and I liked it much more the second time around. I love old movies with dialogue such as Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man, 12 Angry Men and The Big Sleep. I was born in 78 so I was also raised on 80s movies so Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller and war games will always have a soft spot in my heart. 7 samurai, IP Man and The Raid part 1 and 2 were amazing foreign movies. Since getting into my 30s though I've really been disappointed with so many movies, so many 'blockbusters' feel paint by numbers jobs like the big studios are scared to move away from the safe ground of endless remakes/sequels/friggin even prequels!!!! I think the next movies I want to check out is Kingsman and The Sniper anybody seen/recommend them?
Watched Southpaw last night, really enjoyed it. Thought Jake Gyllenhall did a great job in the lead role. 50 Cent not so much in his role. Defo worth a watch. Action film tonight, San Andreas, anybody seen it?
I'm still on the search for a good horror film, any recommendations would be welcome. I watched Carrie for the first time recently, good film but not scary at all. I'd heard It Follows was top drawer so I gave it a try, it was beautifully shot and unusual thematically but again not scary. Watched one called Oculus the other day which was good, it was different in that from the very start of the film they were trying to catch the ghost on camera so the structure of the film was original, reasonably creepy and I got to look at Karen Gillan for an hour and a half which made me happy. But yeah, the search continues. Insidious is the best I've seen in recent times, everything else has been disappointing.
Watched 'the gambler' midweek with the missus (I've already seen it)... She thought (as do I) that it was excellent!
