They inspired way more than just Nirvana, and imo are one of the greatest bands ever! Their new album, Absolute Dissent is friggin amazing, and its on loop in my car cept when the missus is in there of course! That link is just one of many awesome tracks on that album, which also btw includes an extra disc with covers of older stuff like Wardance etc by some truly amazing bands too. Lamby you just went up in my already high estimation!
Since posting that link earlier, I've been reaquainting myself with early Killing Joke all afternoon, Psyche was probably my favourite track. Happy days. I'll have to get round to picking up the new album(while rooting the old ones)
Ahhhh, Killing Joke......still my favourite band of all-time. Seen them far too many times to remember, but it all started off with a gig at the Welly Club in late 1980. And here's a bit of trivia which even the esteemed OLM may struggle to remember - OLM, as a member of the Welly at the time, actually signed me in as a guest for that gig (and there he was thinking he was incognito on this board!). Great days indeed.
ha ha, im happy with my Billy Joel and The drifters thanks very much.. only decent bands around today, are Keane, The Enemy and Kasabian.... this years brits summed up modern music... in 1996 the best album nominees, where Oasis, Pulp, Blur, Radiohead, and Weller... this year, it was some chimps called tinie tempah, and Plan B..-
Not neccesarily new music, does anyone remember the American 90's indie band 'Pavement'? They're really well known and recently reformed and did a pretty big show at ATP. Most known for the song in the video.....and the singer and drummer are infact City fans!!
Pavement? Yeah, still bump into Bob (the drummer) occasionally when he's over from the States on a horseracing trip.
Showing your age there mate, but, I like anything from the 50's to present (as long as it's not the r'n'b **** they put out now), so, maybe I am showing my age too!!
Well said. To be honest, my only hope now is that Kasabian release some decent new stuff, Beady Eye achieve at least some of the greatness Oasis did and that the one 'up and coming band I like - Twisted Wheel - carry on in the same vein they have been.
R'n'B hasn't been good since the 60's anyway, likewise most blues music (with the exception of when great bands like Led Zeppelin incorporated it into their work in, such as with songs like When The Levee Breaks). I'd give up and stick to what you already know, because nobody wants good music in its rawest form anymore, they want computer-enhanced **** from Justin Queer-bear and the like.
I never realised they were city fans till I saw some ATP videos on youtube and they mentioned "friends in Hull". I looked a bit further and found a video of Bob stood on Springhead fields watching football...and I used to play football there. Quite a nice suprise!
Strovolos Junior # 1 quite likes this lot and I now find I have quite a few of their tracks on my iphone!!!! Takes me back to my punk days!!
I've not actually bought the album yet, but I like the few songs I've heard. I wasn't sure whether or not I'd like them, or if they'd go off and make a whole load of stuff different to what Oasis put out. It was always going to be strange because you expect them to sound exactly like Oasis (which they do IMO), but you have a feeling that it's not right because Noel isn't there. I'm gonna buy 'Different Gear...' anyhow so that I can form a more complete opinion, but I actually do like them just from the 2/3 songs I've listened to on YouTube.
im only in my twenties.. just all this rap and r+b gangsta ****e,, as well as the x factor makes most modern radio stations unbearable.. mid nineties where a great age, oasis and pulp at there height, and the stone roses still in the memory.. i cant get into beady eye either, noel was always the genius tho ..
