The Chairboys make the short trip to Northampton for the last League 2 game of the 2014/15 season needing another last day miracle to win automatic promotion. April has been a cruel month for the Chairboys, struggling with injuries they have won two drew one and lost three games in a total of only 8 defeats all season was it the curse of the month award for March that did it. Its been a real rollercoaster ride in the two and a half years that Gareth Ainsworth has been in charge at Adams park with the results at Sixfields being prime examples a 3-1 defeat in November 2012 dropping the Chairboys to the bottom of the league followed by 4-1 win in December 2013 that dropped the Cobblers to the bottom. The presently three sided Sixfields is a sell out for what is likely to be a non-event with the Cobblers missing out on the playoffs last week and our own well documented misfortune but I have my ticket and along with my son we will be making our way to Northampton for a few beers and praying for a second last day miracle in a row
As it's not in our hands, and I couldn't get a ticket anyway, I won't be over for this final game. I'll be over on Tuesday for a few days. If we make it to the play off final I might manage to get to that. So, for the auto spot, we need Southend to lose, Bury to not win and us to win. Not much to ask We can but hope.
Brown has won manager of the month and last time he won Southend lost their next 2 games. Tranmere 1 Bury 1, Morecambe 1 Southend 0 and Northampton 1 Wycombe 2 would be perfect.
On the one hand Tranmere are already relegated to non league football so no reason to put themselves out; especially those who "know" they won't be in the team next season. On the other hand, Bury must win and Southend fail to win in order for Bury to get auto promotion; so the pressure is on Bury and Southend to win. They can't both screw up, can they. I think we are more likely to screw up than either of them.
I did'nt think it would happen last year & it did the chances of lightning striking twice, as people say in football management you need a lot of luck lets just hope Ainsworth has'nt used his all up
Get in there, Holloway finds the net on the volley after a goalmouth scramble. Come on Morecambe & Tranmere!
