Yeah Twitter is rife with that date. Not much to discuss - it will be a landslide. Personally I'm happy somewhere as it will end up being an embarrassment for Corbyn and all of the pseudo Labour followers can drift off in to the sunset with him.
for the first time ever, i will vote conservative... i want brexit to go ahead so i'll bite the bullet on this one.
Absolute nightmare for me. There has always been the hope that Corbyn would be replaced before 2020, but not now. A shrewd political move by Mrs. May. I don't believe it is about Brexit, it's about the landslide which will result from Corbyn being systematically taken apart during the rough-and -tumble of an election campaign. I expect the Lib-Dems to fight a better campaign than Labour, and may even be the official opposition afterwards.
Fixed Term Parliament Act - can be overturned by a Parliamentary vote. Realistically no MP is going to risk looking a chicken voting against facing their employers- although I can see plenty of queasy looking faces today.
Logically, this could be seen as the point to rally against Brexit. Corbyn, whose prospects of becoming prime minister are dead in the wáter, could seize this as a 'do or die' moment, set himself up with the part as 'anti Brexit', and claim a large slice of the electorate who didn't want to leave Europe. The problem is that there are Tories against Brexit, and Labour people in favor. Plus the deed is signed. There is a rumour Theresa May is looking to amplify her majority to make negotiaitions easier. Given what happened in the US elections six months ago, maybe there will be a few surprises in store. There would have to be to make what looks like a landslide in waiting into something interesting.
Surely a decision on whether Labour vote in favour of the Election should come from the Party's executive and not Corbyn? Surely? I'm clutching at straws again...
Don't forget,... like the Don....Tessa has the Russians on her side .... when we pull out from the EU she will bring the troops home from Germany
If nothing else, this will bring the crisis in the Labour Party to a head. Very hard to continue with Corbyn-ism post 8 June - a bit like trying to disentangle a car from a lamppost
Yep - lots of cries already for us to all get on the same side and get rid of the Tories. Unfortunately the corbynistas dont realise a lot of us would prefer to lose this election to speed up his exit. My apathy levels for this general election are the same for Charlton under RD.
The Lib-Dems have already moved into this space. They are after the 48%, and will be united in their election message. The Tories will also be United with only dear old Ken Clarke the only remoaner. Labour are all over the place, with a glaring leadership vacuum, which is why the Lib-Dems have a real chance to become the official opposition. Election campaigns can be brutal, as we shall see.
