Dan Evans beat number 7 seed Cilic. 3-1. Cilic won points by great shots, but Evans worked him till Cilic reached the point of error. A mature performance from Dan. Showed how good the match was....he kept me from watching Murray on the other side.

 

Murray walks over a young Russian, so nothing like as good as the Evans match.

I rate Valteri but I think Lewis will destroy him next season to make a point. Would prefer Massa hadn't come back, but that's down to their sponsors.

 

Laces, do you think there was anything else in Massa coming back in terms of relationship with Bottas? I know Martini don't want to youngbdrovers but there were other 'older' options out there.

As I am going out, you won't have to suffer my tennis updates for too long. Istomin (world number 117) has beaten Djokovic in 5 sets in the Australia Open.

 

Counting absolutely zero chickens, that must give Murray his best chance yet of winning the Australian Open.

 

Maybe it is time for one of the next generation to step up and claim the title. Men's tennis needs an infusion of fresh talent to shake things up a bit. Would love to see Pakistan or India or even South America to start really churning out a conveyor belt of tennis talent, to challenge the constant domination of the men's game at least by Europeans.

 

I agree, although Argentina has had a few great players and are currently Davis Cup holders I think.

Evans fluffed serving for the 2nd set, then so did Tomic, and Dan won the tie break 7-2 to take a 2 set lead.

 

Evans wins tie break to take 3rd set....through to next round.

 

Konta gets to 4th round by beating Wozniacki in straight sets.

What are the odds on a British double? I do think someone totally unexpected will turn up in either the men's or women's final. Dominic Thiem has been hotly tipped to make it to the top.
