It always makes me feel ****e after eating from Frydays in Cott. Try my mate Wiggies opposite the Duke.
Hallgate. It's alright but it's a bit **** that all the pubs shut at 12 midnight. Somebody mentioned that the village voted for it, is that true?
Personal taste isn't it? I might have just caught Papas on a bad day (as you might Frydays). I'll give it another go
I've had Fryday's a few times, the fish was lovely but the chips weren't to my liking. I loved Whiteheads in Hornsea and the one at Wetwang is decent if you're on the way back from York.
It probably is just personal taste then, I thought Papas' fish was passable, but felt the chips were really dry. Not past it dried out, just dry. Whereas with Frydays chips you leave grease everywhere between the shop, your home and any furniture until the wrapper's safely in the bin and you've washed your hands. Typing this I'm realising I may just be a gutbucket.
Dunno about the village voting for it but we get served at 1.00am on a Thursday night in the Cross Keys. Friday and Saturday is always late too. If you're using the Railway then I agree it does close early. Duke and the Tavern serve till about 12.30 and you can usually get a pint in Tiger till midnight. Straight to Kismet for a kebab and home.
I prefer Cott tandoori. They need to learn how to pack their curry though, the last few I've had have leaked.
Hallgate eh? Word of warning, if you leave your car on the road fold you mirrors in cos the buses and vans take them off for you.
Same here. I do still occasionally use Alishan's, but I've had some dodgy old ****e from there to be honest. Cott Tandoori's pretty consistent, although after a while I find they all taste pretty similar, when what's usually best about an Indian is the diversity of flavours.
We recently went to Papas expecting first class fish and chips. It was utter dog **** - burnt fish, it had been cooked then clearly left on a griddle - the chips were horrible too. Massive thick and barely cooked. Worst fish and chips I've had by some considerable distance.
Tell us what you really think I've never been to Papas myself, I like the Hornsea ones and in Bev I used to go to that one on Lairgate (that's now Harpers) but I can't remember it's name. EDIT: PISCES!
All of the recent reports I've heard about Papas say it was thoroughly mediocre, so I've not bothered going.
It's ****e mate your right. I find Railway Inn at New ellerby, and Bay horse at Arnold better than all the chip shops i try. They seem to be able to do nice brown chips like chip shops used to do. Also the food at Dacre Arms in Brandesburton is really nice.
