I always thought it was an odd place to put a fish and chip restaurant, but they spent a lot of money changing the restaurant at Shiptonthorpe that has been Chinese and Indian over the years. It finish refurbishment 3 months ago, and I saw when I rode past Sunday that it has closed.
The Gallery was okay when it opened, but went downhill fairly quickly, I got a mouldy cheesecake in there a year or two back. Never again. South Cave Chinese is absolutely rank, not been there for twenty years (it used to be a great fish & chip shop, with a restaurant, they did a great fry up first thing as well).
Hang on - you say how much The Gallery changed in a quick space of time yet SCC is still rank when you haven't been in for twenty years. It could be amazing * *Unless you know other people who have been in.
I'd be amazed if anyone didn't know how good or bad a local restaurant or take away was, regardless of how many times they use it themselves.
Been to Papas at Willerby and at Scarborough. Both very good. A couple at Whitby, Inghams at Filey, 149 in Brid and a new place on Brid Seafront are better in my opinion. All down to personal preferences, like a lot of things. Some rave about Cave Street which I think is crap. I go along with Look Back In Amber, Whiteheads in Hornsea takes some beating.
Outrageous doesn't even start to cover it. Riots have been caused and governments toppled over less.Though beans with fish and chips is a strange combination in my opinion. Fish, chips, mushy peas the only acceptable combination in a civilised society.
No mate, the beans go with a battered sausage, chips and a bread cake. The heathens will be on here in a minute telling me I'm wrong when we all know I'm right. Yum yum.
Having been to Whiteheads a few times on Look Back In Amber's recommendation gave another of his recommendations, The Frying Farmer in Aldbrough a try today. Another good one and excellent value. Not quite as good as Whiteheads but not far off and better than most.
Sullivans in Hornsea looks as though it’s not far off re-opening (it’s been closed since January following the floods caused by the high tides) It looks as though it’s had a big make-over – looking forward to giving it a try There’s good competition in Hornsea – Whiteheads, Sullys, Harpers and others
Mushy peas = mucky ****s. The same goes for this weird gravy / curry fetish - on fish. I have beans with fish and chips every time.
I will never be silenced. Cod chips peas and gravy. Chips first, then the peas with the gravy on top & the large cod on top ****ing awesome.
