Everyone,or so stats say,has a dabble on the GN. So,if you do what have you selected and why? Birthdays.Wedding days (hehehe 13?) Form.Pin. Jockey, trainer, just like the name?
My best memory was the GN was some old guy riding in it , that maybe shouldn't have and had a really bad fall ... think he broke his collarbone . Everyone was talking him up like it was amazing till he ..... dismounted involuntarily ...
Yes it's a cruel race that should be made easier for the horses sake or scrapped altogether in my opinion. one horse death is one too many... Oh and before anyone asks....I like horse racing and have been to many courses and enjoyed a very good day out....
Well then you will know that Race Horses die in other meeting too. But if it was not for racing the horses would not have been bred in the first place. Nobody wants to see horses suffer and most dont but while they are racing they are very well looked after. Even when they retire they go on to stud. Not a bad life really!
1983 Grand National. I was there. We stayed at Bredbury Hall. Saturday morning went to Anfield where Swans lost 3-0. After the game straight to Aintree. Corbiere won it.
Great memories apart from (Swans lost 3-0) I always remember Bob Champion on Aldaniti 1981. Bob was recovering from testicular cancer bouncing in the saddle must have been painful. And Miinnehoma owned by Freddy starr who won an each way bet of £250k. The horse lived till 29 years of age.
I only know one horse - Red Rum. And was there a white one called Desert Orchid? That's all I know, I'm afraid
Red Rum won it three times,so if you only know one you picked a good one. Desert Orchid won the Cheltenham gold cup beating Wayward Lad. I remember that one as i had money on Wayward Lad who was piped at the post.
Ah Bradbury Hall, spent many a night there. Meet the owner had a few drinks with him, then bumped into his daughter got chatting few drinks and a very plesent night in her company.
Why the Fcuk are you questioning my post.? I say the GN is cruel and that should be good enough for you..
But the heart-warming stat that was released shortly after the conclusion of the blue-ribbon event is that not one horse fatality was recorded over the course of the three day meet at Aintree, with all 40 Grand National runners and riders coming back unhurt to add further weight to the fact This is an open forum. You post on other threads about Dictators destroying the world when your last post has the hallmarks of one. First of all I replied to your post ( which we do on an open forum) and secondly you are behind the times in your facts. This is from The National Hunt. "But the heart-warming stat that was released shortly after the conclusion of the blue-ribbon event is that not one horse fatality was recorded over the course of the three day meet at Aintree, with all 40 Grand National runners and riders coming back unhurt to add further weight to the fact that the changes made by the British Horseracing Authority to the National course is having a positive influence on safety" And "It means that the Grand National has now stretched to its fifth year without an equine fatality being recorded in the main event"
You should see how crazy the Chuckwagon races are at the Calgary Stampede , many a horse has been put down
5 years without a horse dying in the main event at the National? Really surprised by that. Great to see that organisers etc are listening to the advice of the vets and trainers etc, and more importantly, that it's working
Because valley I am stating that I..Me.. think the GN is a cruel race and the horses may not die but some never get to race again and because no horse have died in recent GN races does not mean they wont in the future....I think it should be scrapped or massively shortened and some fences lowered.....You and everyone else have different opinions and that is ok....
