I thought we had a topic on this but I can't find it on my phone.

I read that safe standing areas may come as Phase 2 when the corners are filled in. That implies they'll be in the corners. That doesn't make sense to me. The areas where people stand now are unsurprisingly in the middle blocks of the Devonport End and in the away section of the Barn Park End. Surely it makes better sense to put safe standing there and install seats in the corners.

It's a pity we don't have anyone here with connections with the club. Oh, wait.....

Thank you. To be honest if they can return the whole of the standing part to standing then I know what I would choose. Low maintenance and a whole lot cheaper to put back in than seats. There are plenty of people out there who actually prefer to stand and watch football. I am one of them although I doubt I could persuade my mates and son to change back now. Lazy bleddy youngsters.

Whether it is behind the goal or in the corners, I still think so called safe standing is a very long way off, especially at HP. If standing does become legal I think (but don't know) that the location would have to be decided at the time. Using the corners for anything remains an unfunded aspiration so I think it is almost impossible to rule anything in or out. fwiw I think that it would be better to install behind the goals, but what do I know!

Thanks Lyndhurst, I appreciate Phase 2 is a way away yet.

You see my point though: the club have stated that standing in seated areas is unsafe, particularly above the stair wells. In practical terms, you'd need an army of stewards and a division of police to stop it. If (if) safe standing is put in the wrong place, we'll end up with people who want to sit down having to stand up and those who want to stand continuing to do so exactly where they do now but where it's unsafe.

PS The other thing I was wondering about was that, given the current rule is that seated areas can't be turned back into standing, the corners might be exempt because they've never had seats in them. For the reasons above, that's not a good reason to put safe standing there now.

That's a good point actually. The area above the vomitories (not sure on the spelling or why they are called that)/above the stair wells are already a focus of safety concerns with all seater stadia (esp when people stand up to celebrate/inappropriately). I suspect that IF safe standing was ever allowed there would be a whole host of 'rules' to go with it. It is likely that H&S will have more of a say in the location than the supporters/club officials/owners.

Vomitories are obviously where the fans exit!

Originally, the word comes from double handed sinks into which the Romans emptied excess wine.
