You're not reading hack-ese very well. The answer is : exactly as they said. The possibility was there as stated. But no statement of certainty the event would occur. Therefore hack arse covered.
I could win the lottery by the end of the week Theresa May will still be Prime Minister by the end of the week Donald Trump will apologise by the end of the week Anyone recken I've got what it takes to become a hack? All very unlikel scenareos but hey ho, anything is possible.
The skill is to start gossip that is credible, but use words that never nail you to claims of strong certainty (lest you later be called on it) . Here is one from Tom Comatose (ES) . He has recently written that Walker is "expected" to leave Spurs this summer. Well, I "expect" that between now and Sep 1 the temperature in London will be at least 25C on at least 14 different days. And if it doesn't happen ?? Well I never said it WILL happen did I, only that I "expect" it to.

I saw this mentioned yesterday of a Sun hack impersonating the relatives of a Grenfell survivor to trick their way into hospital, but waited for a credible confirmation. Here is that credible confirmation: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/16/sun-journalist-grenfell-tower-victim-hospital ****ing vile.
There's a few articles linked to from that article in the Guardian which are well worth reading. Not comfortable reading mind you.
Daily Mail Double Standards Watch When a Muslim drives a white van into a crowd at Borough Market the Mail call them a terrorist When a white bloke drives a van into a crowd outside Finsbury Park mosque shouting "Death to Muslims" the Mail call them...a white van driver
The Sun, the Mail and the Express are all queuing up to condemn Jeremy Corbyn for not following parliamentary protocol by refusing to bow his head during the Queen's Speech. Slight problem with those copy & paste headlines: parliamentary protocol says the Black Rod bows their head on behalf of the entire house, meaning that the Dire Leader was one one not following protocol when she bowed her head. The obvious question is whether this was due to (yet another in a long list of) failure on her part, or if she did it on purpose knowing her attack dogs in the press would seize on it.
Looks like the Mail is going to be busy babbling themselves in circles for a few days... For those having trouble telling them apart, the Daily Mail is a paper owned by DMG Media that preaches hate and intolerance, while MailOnline is a website owned by DMG Media that preaches hate and intolerance. I don't know how anyone could possibly think the two are in any way connected...
Transfer stuff is so quiet that I thought I would do a 'click bait' watch on NewsNow to see what is out there, and whether you can form an opinion just from the bait alone. So we start with : 1. Spurs make big decision concerning pursuit of Ross BarkleyTottenham Blog (Weblog) Good. Let us know whether the decision is buy or not buy, in your next article. After cooling Barkley interest, Tottenham should move on £26.4m ace...he has two UCL titles HITC Tottenham cool interest in Everton ace WhoScored.com (Weblog) Tottenham set to leave Everton's Ross Barkley in transfer limbo after having second thoughts…Mirror.co.uk Don't bother (the answer is now apparently not buy) . 2. Tottenham make contact with potential Eric Dier replacement Playing for 90 (Weblog) Good to have a replacement in mind for replacing Dier a few years down the line. 3. Spurs poised to offer Kieran Trippier new five-year deal with Kyle Walker's future uncertain The Telegraph Trippier is worth a new contract IMHO regardless of whether Walker remains at Spurs. 4. Spanish media claim Spurs may have bid with Manchester United in shock move for Barcelona star Football.London Man Utd, Arsenal & Spurs warned off £30m Barcelona star – report TEAMtalk Tottenham named as potential suitors for 23-year-old Barcelona star; three bids received HITC One of you will succumb to naming the player in your article title. And so on. But in the interests of "balance" , and to prove we are only human ... 5. Reports: Barcelona make shock move for Tottenham 'flop' Sportskeeda Please God, let it be Sissoko !!!! But saved by : Spurs fans won't believe it, with £17m flop set for Barcelona talks HITC Janssen to Barca ??
As I've said a few times in the transfer thread, it's clickbait the moment a Turkish site says we're after a Turkish player and/or player from a Turkish club. Why do Turks like us so much?
A lot more Turks in the parrish (Edmonton, Enfield etc) than of old (Green Lanes beyond Manor House etc) . Perhaps we are the local adopted club of choice beyond the club they support in their homeland.
One hack seems to have got the message behind the "Spurs go cool on Barkley" story. I'm sure we've fed it to a number of hacks through various channels. The strong likelihood is that we're just letting Everton know that we've no intention of paying their £50m. If Barkley wants to come to work with Mauricio Pochettino and will accept our wage structure then £30m is the most that we're likely to pay for anyone and I don't see us doing that for a player in the last year of his contract. If we're signing players up to contracts to retain them/increase their value, we can't then pay top dollar for someone with 12 months left. It destroys the argument and we don't have the money. This signing is likely to be a long drawn out process with a high likelihood that Everton will pull a WBA and refuse to let us have Barklahino and flog him off elsewhere. I'm sure we rack up a number of such deals every year. Bruma may have been such a deal that faltered on our wage against Red Bull Leipzig's £100k pw. However, we got Wanyama out of Southampton on the cheap and there could still be others, there's just not that many of them unless you want The Ox or Özil. Most clubs know how to protect their investments.
True in that we have to accept that Spurs also play the game too. "This signing is likely to be a long drawn out process with a high likelihood that Everton will pull a WBA and refuse to let us have Barklahino and flog him off elsewhere." Has idea (watch this space) ...
On the subject of clickbait, TeamTalk is running a headline saying Spurs fans want Dembele sold - and their only source is this poll from 90min please log in to view this image I think we have a front-runner for non-story of the day...
Man City and Tottenham battle over £50m Kyle Walker Daily Mail I bet Citeh want this particular battle to end ASAP, as Walker has increased in value beyond their limit by 5m in just 3 days. And the transfer window still has a week to go before opening.
