Whatever the defensive combo SB choses (for set piece situations specifically) , I hope SB has a word with McGregor. A.M. ****ed up big time for Brizzle's goal last Saturday. He made a decision to leave his goal-line to punch the ball because, with Dawson just having been subbed, he didn't have the confidence anyone else was capable of clearing the free-kick. As a result, he rushed off his line & ploughed into his own defender, completely missed the ball, fell & couldn't get back on his feet to re-position himself on his line in the centre of his goal. I would wager Big Mac would have more confidence with Davies & Bruce in front of him for those types of situations. We are likely to find ourselves up against far more of those situations against Derby than we did last Saturday @ Brizzle.
The inclusion of Huddlestone, followed by the obvious debate, took the spotlight away from McGregor, but I agree that he could have done so much better with their goal. If a keeper makes a move toward the ball he simply HAS to make effective contact with it, he never. The result was that it created mayhem and led directly to them scoring.
Having only conceded 9 goals all season in the Championship - and especially in view of the form he's shown in the last few matches - I think you're being very harsh in trying to blame the goal on McGregor. Yes, it was a sloppy goal that two or three players could have done prevented, but you really are nit-picking here!
Yes he made the initial mistake, but Odubajo had 3 or 4 attempts before he fell flat on his arse failing miserably for them to score!! Edit: Not 3 or 4 but 1 very good one!
Actually you have a point about McG for the goal, I've just seen the highlight on YouTube, so was just going off memory from the game, & WTF he was doing on the floor I have no idea, but I still think Odubajo should have done better & at the very least blocked it, or tried harder! I suppose in the heat of the moment it's harder than looking back on it like we are now!
But for the Nottingham Forest game your feeling may have been correct. However, I think that SB will keep the changes to a minimum. At least Davies and Maguire had good game time @ Brizzle so that wont be an issue.
He just clips the bottom of the ball, it goes upon the air and drops at the strikers feet, good spin then shot, proper strikers goal. Basically an air shot by Dave, look like he just falls on his arse... The behind the goal view shows clearly the Bristol player doesn't touch him
sorry chaz have to concur that no brizzle legs were damaged during Dave`s **** up, panicked, swung a leg and missed it, simple as.
The Bristol goal was mainly Dave's fault, but why wasn't McGregor wearing a hat in those conditions? The Sky commentator said he was amazed he wasn't wearing one and before the goal he was constantly shading his eyes with his hand. Dawson earlier completely misjudged a punt up field because of the sun which let the Bristol striker in to shoot narrowly across goal. McGregor did save brilliantly from a free-kick on the right before the goal, but as others have said he was nowhere near the goal cross from the same area. It was an inexplicable decision by McGregor and I hope he got a good bollocking for it.
