......... and Boro don't go up I'd consider Aitor Karanka even as Advocaat's 'apprentice' for a year.

Boro were going nowhere fast and he's taken some really average players to Wembley.

He organises people, takes no shyte & has some very good contacts in the game.

I'd much prefer him to the likes of McClaren & Sam who seem to be more interested in money than ambition.

He seems as committed & driven as di Canio but is much more concise & clinical.

He seems to put a lot of work on the training ground and in preparing for the game.

Who is our manager is less important than brining in some new players with pace strength and skill. No manager can put a shine on s**t

I don't know much about him at all.

In terms of the thread title, that's just not an option!!

He said yesterday that whatever happens, this is his last management position, so it's either retire now or retire after staying here a little longer.

I just hope the pull of managing in the PL is too strong for him!

I can't see beyond pulling out all stops to land Davie Moyes

I'm not sure about that at all. Hasn't he just gone to Spain?

He wouldn't be showing much loyalty if he just upped and left, and I wouldn't be impressed by that at all.

He certainly has done a great job for the Boro, and I hope they come up, and Hull go down, if King Dick advocates, then yes why not we could do a lot worse. Big Sam, Moyes, The Wally etc dont excite me.

The trouble is that they have no real burning ambition.

It's just a trundle through various jobs trotting out endless clichés & platitudes.

They have default pre & post match 'interviews' that are so routine I could fill in for them if they were ill.

I think Karanka is a mate of Mourinho, he let him have Bamford on loan. Don't think the special one would help us out if Karanka came to Sunderland.
In general though I can't think who I'd want. The usual suspects aren't very exciting and we really do need to get this one right.
Which is why I'm praying that Dick sorts things out with their lass and stays for at least a year

That`s the important bit right there. ^

I can`t help feeling Congerton will make a big difference. There were rumours (yes, I know) that he had good players lined up but they were rejected by Poyet. He`s gone and the first real input has brought DA. He might actually be getting the board to listen to good advice for a change.

Might be on the wrong track entirely mind. :emoticon-0184-tmi:

Dick Advocaat should be offered the position of DoF at Sunderland. He's got nothing left in the tank that would represent long term progression.

One season and then what? Another manager who may want different players. No point taking the guy on as manager at all in my opinion, forget sentiment, shake his hand and let him leave with his 'job done' status.

There's loads of top managers out there, just because you've only been linked with underwhelming ones doesn't mean you're gonna get them, papers generally know **** all.

The summer will see a flood of applications coming into the EPL for West Ham, Sunderland, possibly Newcastle, maybe City and possibly more. Every top geezer wants to manage in this league.

While I see your point I think you're underestimating the importance that a good, solid season or two where we don't get relegated or even look like we will would mean to the club. I think Advocaat would offer that.

We're basically s**t by prem standards and if we can get someone with experience to sort the team out and get us matching the support and ambition of the club then that would be perfect.

    This is what will happen.

Dick will stay on as Manager with Paul Bracewell as assistant who will then take over as Manager when Dick goes.

    From a reliable source.

Personally I'd look at Klopp. There doesn't appear to be any so called big jobs out there and offering him a PL job with say a £50mill budget may tempt him.

Surely congerton will know him from his time in germany. There will always be a chance

Edit - Just looked at sky bet. He is 66/1 for us and 3/1 for Brentford. WTF

I think Dick will take the job for 12 months providing Ellis puts his hand in his pocket and buy the 6 quality players Dick thinks we need, and also bring in the person who will take over when Dick retires, lets have a long term project in place so we have no more Relegation fears in the future.
