Since everyone loves an Arsenal themed thread on the PL board and there was some similar discussion on another thread I thought I'd ask:

Do you think your club would have done better, worse or the same as it has, with Wenger at the helm instead of your previous managers? Over the last 20, 10, 5, 3 and 1 seasons?

I'll be reactionary to start with, he did a great job early on but I'm glad we haven't had him as long as you lot have, he lost it a long time ago and is bang average and more business man than manager.

He would have been perfect for us over the last 3 years I reckon... before Mourinho took over <whistle>

That's actually not a wum tbh. Wenger would've steadied the ship and kept us in top 4 and maybe even won a couple of domestic trophies. Then Mourinho comes in and kicks it on and reinstate us as the Kings of England and Europe <ok>

But at least he would have won you the League title a few times which is more than any of your managers have done despite spending vastly greater sums in the transfer market.
Above argument applies to Spurs as well.
Only United have consistently been better in League than Arsenal in last 20 years, and in last 10 years it's been Chelsea and in last 5 it's been City.

That was pretty much the answer I'd expect from Utd fans <ok>

I'd be interested to see what fans of other teams think though.

He wouldn't have kept you in the top four. He'd have laid foundations to eventually get you back into the top four. Why? Because he's not the type of manager to throw money at the problem. He likes to develop young players instead.

Would certainly have been a better option than Moyes, LVG and Mourinho though, I'll give you that.

I'd have taken Wenger before Houllier, Woy, Dalglish II (yep, I said that) and Brod.

Hmmm... I think he likes to work with good players with technical ability. The United squad as a whole had that and were seasoned, experienced professiona. A similar situation to when he took over at Arsenal and the success he had. What we lacked was the creativity in midfield but Wenger would've made one or two additions with the funds he had, like he has at Arsenal. I don't think we had the squad to win the title again immediately, but to get top 4 under Wenger, I think he would have.

    Edit: Rafa?

That doesn't answer the question though of whether you think your club would have done better if you'd had Wenger. Over 20, 10, 5, 3, 1 years.

Personally I think Wenger would have done wonders for Spurs.

He certainly laid the foundations for what you've become, no doubt about that. And for that, enormous credit to him. And, he was instrumental in bringing change to the game in England.

But, as Luv says, he's way past his sell by. The game has moved on and he's either too stubborn or too arrogant to accept that.

True or not don't you think he would have done better than the managers you've had? You lot seem pretty happy with Poch so I could understand if you didn't agree Wenger would have done better than him but the other managers over the last 20 years?

Given Spurs being tight with money and trying to bring through youth plus the lure to players of playing for Wenger I think he would have done really well at Spurs if he'd gone to you at any point over the last 20 years. Think he'd be a good fit to the way your club is run.

It's no secret that our record of hiring and firing managers has been a bit of a disaster. So, yes, of course we'd have done better - or I hope we would have.

Silly thing is, Hoddle played under him at Monaco and recommended him. Somebody didn't listen....

Hopefully, we've finally found the right manager under MP. He's ambitious, though, and we have to match those ambitions.

I think City would have taken him over any of there managers up until appointing Guardiola and think he would have done at least as well as the managers there. Actually think he would have done better due to his experience in the league and CL.

Spurs have had some decent squads over the years tbf. They just haven't had the manager to make the most of them.

I think he was the guy Man Utd should have gone for rather than Mourinho.
