....you may find the place a tad quiet because the Exeter Chiefs have just beaten Saracens in the Premiership Play Offs and will play the winners of the Wasps/Leicester semi which starts shortly, at Twickenham on Saturday, whilst Exeter City play Blackpool at Wembley in the League 2 Play Off Final on Sunday. That should ensure bumper support for both Exeter sides providing the hang overs don't get in the way...... Pleased for Exeter Chiefs as they are a good side and in Rob Baxter have an excellent coach.......
The 'grockles' coming down for the Bank Holiday weekend will be taking over the place (mind you they usually do!), won't be too many locals around. If you look at both the rugby and the football teams, they've both taken their time and been patient in (hopefully) achieving their goals, maybe because the expectations for both sides haven't been too high. It took the rugby team being runners up three times around ten years ago before they achieved promotion from division two with a two legged play off win over Bristol. They'd already moved to a new stadium and with other income streams have built slowly on solid foundations to be runners up last year and back in the final again this year. Head coach Baxter has been in charge for 7 seasons. Whilst City, owned by a supporters trust and although languishing in the 4th tier pushed Liverpool to a reply in the FA Cup last year and have had Paul Tisdale in charge now since 2006. I believe if Wenger departs this summer then Tisdale becomes the leagues current longest serving manager. Maybe some lessons to be learnt. We don't get too much sporting success down this end of the country (excepting Argyle's promotion as well this season) so here's hoping for a 'Devonshire Double' next weekend..... careful, we may be breaking out the scones and cream!
Not quite the Devon Double this weekend but an awesome victory for the Chiefs yesterday means we've got some success down in this neck of the woods. Doesn't happen very often...... Take that back, first time it's ever happened.
Also worth noting that Exeter were bottom of League Two in November but showed faith in Tisdale as manager, shame we don't have such stability...
Dev - was at Twickers on Saturday (decidedly neutral). Chiefs pressure in 2nd half and ET was relentless. Well deserved the win.
