Rumours are growing that Daryl will leave this week with West Ham being one of the suitors mentioned. Some outlets are reporting a fee of just £3m which is bullshit if true. He's an international fullback for the Netherlands ffs and prices have doubled for players these days. His recent dropping may also back the exit theory up... https://ninetyminutesonline.com/west-ham-make-move-newcastle-star/? West Ham United have made an approach to sign Newcastle United right-back Daryl Janmaat, according to The Daily Mail. The Hammers have struggled to fill the full-back role over the last 12 months, with winger Michail Antonio asked to play out of position in defence of late. The former Nottingham Forest wideman gave away a penalty in the recent 2-1 defeat against Chelsea, highlighting that Slaven Bilic’s men need a more natural option in the position. please log in to view this image Newcastle were relegated last season and as such a number of their players have already left St James’ Park or are expected to depart before the transfer window closes. Janmaat is an experienced operator and would fit into West Ham’s philosophy of getting their full-backs forward as attacking weapons. The Netherlands international would surely be interested in returning to the English top flight, with the report suggesting that talks over a transfer are underway. Newcastle have Rafa Benitez’s summer signing Jesus Gamez to feature at right-back should Janmaat leave.
I'd take 3m to be honest. I'm not convinced with him at all. Not sure about Yedlin mind. He's ok. Its a left back we need. Gamez can cover/rotate Anita. At present I'd start Gamez on the left. I don't think Dummett helps Aarons game. We need a left back good with the ball for a start. We need to feed Aarons in better areas. If he can get by him overlapping, even better.
I'm not a fan of Janmaat and would get rid. Anita and Gamez is sufficient so we don't need a replacement. Value-wise, he has 4 years to run on his contract, is a proven Premier League player and a full international. Sorry but £3m is nowhere near his value. You are probably talking about at least £8m for him in the current market. If he is going for £3m then there mustn't be much demand and the buying club are trying to take the piss, knowing we want to get his high wages off the books.
Get rid for me. Not a defender in my eyes, or a wing back. No fight when things aren't going well. He was awful last season imo. The wall punching was the final straw. £3m? £4-5M and he can **** off for good.
Meh... Wouldn't make a difference to the quality of the starting eleven. Useful backup as an attacking wingback, but woeful defender.
Quite liked by some last season at the SOL. I think he is ****e. But some rate him. He is fast like, but so was forrest gump.
If it's Everton who blocked it there's not a lot we could have done. Hope we have other plans in play though, if Janmaat goes we're suddenly looking very shaky in the fullback department. Still no real clue what's going on with Gamez, Haidara questionable and just back off injury, Anita decent but needing cover and Dummett not a starting XI player for me. If we go into the season in a position where we'll be looking at Mbabu and Sterry as serious options in an injury crisis, we'd better hope they're ready.
