A friend of mine's son is at Uni in the US. He was asked to debate the college principal on gun control. He asked me for some help and I waded into the subject, providing a bundle of stats and ideas for directions and threads of debate. He sent me a long analysis of the debate and ended it thus:

This got even worse when I brought up mass shootings, I literally felt physically sick because we were talking about banning assault rifles in the country and I had already said how they were used in mass shootings and legally obtained in several high profile mass shooting cases and then one of the opposition said how he owns an AR-15 style assault rifle. He talked about how he uses it for protection and sport and lets his 8 year old child even shoot it - its only purpose is for enjoyment.

I then said to him, I'm sure Omar Mateen also got enjoyment out of it when he used the AR-15 style assault rifle, which he obtained legally. The room went quiet and then he whispered to the person next to him on the debating panel, who's Omar Mateen? and I couldn't believe what I'd just heard. It was unbelievable hearing him not even know he was, so I explained who Omar Mateen was and how he shot 102 people, killing 49 in a nightclub in Orlando of June this year using the gun your 8 year old plays with 'for fun'.

And then, the third person on the panel said "he could have been wearing Nike shoes, should we ban those too?"

These are people in charge of college education in the USA. Depressing.

In the absence of Fran ;) Really pleased to report that Dan Evans beat Bernard Tomic, the No 27th seed this morning. Another excellent win for Evans (against a player who I really can't stand)

You seem a generally knowledgeable bunch*. I'm looking for a UK manufacturer who could rustle me up a few thousand bar blades (bottle openers). Here's one:

The problem I have is that nigh on two hours of research hasn't led me in the right direction - does anyone on here have experience of finding metal fabricators or whatever or even manufacturers in general? I'm not interested in sourcing from China, which is a shame as they have Alibaba as a one-stop-shop whereas here there seems to be nothing similar.

    Cheers,

    Vin

Just discovered the vegetable biryani that I had yesterday contained chicken....thought the texture was strange. So went perfectly with the macaroni cheese that turned into cauliflower cheese. Don't tell me that my life isn't exciting.<laugh>
