I'm very saddened by the news that Kauto Star has passed away following injuries sustained in a fall. God bless him.
Just read the sad sad news that the wonder horse Kauto Star has had to be put down... See ATR report...http://www.attheraces.com/article.a...ock fall&ref=PA Racing Feed&nav=&sub=&day=Tue Im gutted...
What a sad day for racing when one of the greats passes away. A magnificent horse who did so much for racing. RIP to the King Kauto Star! I just wonder if this will reignite the Nicholls and Smith dispute over where the horse should have been kept in his retirement. I'm sure Nicholls and his staff will be very bitter that this has happened since he's been taken away from their care.
What a legend he was and shame he didn't live out his years as he deserved to. Always thought he should have been put in a pasture surrounded by some lovely Fillies but those who know more about horses welfare than I thought he would have preferred to continue jumping fences instead... Farewell Kauto and thanks for the great days you gave us.
I've merged the 2 threads on this subject to get all comments on one thread - tried to keep both titles.
Devastating news this and I just hope all parties focus on what a wonderful career he had with no bickering or "what ifs". His versatility and longevity set him apart from all but a very few steeplechasers we have seen down the years. I still love to watch his 5th King George, absolute poetry in motion and the raw emotion he inspired was no more evident than on that remarkable day. RIP King Kauto Star.
Very sad news Just a shame that he couldn't have been retired after he finished his jumps career. The greatest chaser in my lifetime RIP Kauto
Only got to see him run the once in the flesh, but what a race, and what a recpetion. Haydock Park in the Betfair Chase, back in November of 2011. Questions had already been asked of the champ leading up to the race with Paul Nicholls saying he had him in the best shape he could, and if its not good enough then so be it. I think he opened up at 4/1 but eventually ran at a huge 6/1, so much was the feeling that Kauto had had his day and this was just a run out for the fans... The race panned out with the King strutting his stuff with supreme style and grace to eventually run out a 6-8 lenghts winner over Long Run. Kauto Star had returned for one last hurrah. Not so much the 'Return of the King' but a reminder that there was only ever one 'True King'... Kauto reminded everyone again of his class next month when beating Long Run to win yet another King George to raptorous applause... I am as emotional now as i was then. A truly great champion...
What a shock. Kauto Star was my true introduction to top flight fencing, he was a gallant champion. In this day and age, the word "champion" is bandied about a bit too much, but in this case, the term was, and is, most fitting.
Oddy, can you point me in the direction of your video of the Haydock Betfair Chase 2011? I've found the King George one. I'd like to post them up with a few words this afternoon if possible
I hope we will see some tribute documentary in the coming weeks narrated by the excellent Alistair Down, would be fitting
