UN rules that Assange has been imprisoned illegally. I was unaware he had been imprisoned....he has elected to be in that embassy. Probably end up serving a longer self-imposed sentence than he might have got if he'd returned to Sweden under their arrest warrant. It's called painting yourself into a corner. If he's worried about being sent to America, tough.....if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I used to always be down the Gaumont seeing bands back in the early 80's. Used to get up early and queue for our tickets (in the stalls as near the front as possible) and spend the morning in the record shops listening to somebody we'd never heard of. No boring internet back then you had to make the effort. Of course chart bands don't do the smaller places much anymore which is a shame.

As an oldie, I can remember going to a record shop and being given a copy to take into a small booth before deciding to buy. Good fun.

Yes saw this. Turned the news on at lunchtime to see what was new and there he was live making a statement on BBC and Sky. Fed up with hearing about him but I suppose someone must care what he's got to say. He has voluntarily hidden away in the embassy because he is too much of a coward to come out and prove his innocence (if he is). No one is holding him there, it's his choice and he is welcome to come out. Very strange ruling by the UN. I wonder how many more years he'll choose to hide in there.

Sounds like a definite plan, LTL! We may be staying overnight as the festivities appear to span more than just the Saturday! We should arrange a meet for a beer or three :emoticon-0100-smile

Used to be a "secret" way in back in the early 70s through a small window in the gents. Not that I would have deprived the promoter of my hard earned, of course <whistle>

If they have ruled this and we accept it, then, surely, it sets a precedent that anyone charged with a crime such as rape can take sanctuary in an embassy and cannot be arrested. What I don't understand is who is paying his way and how long he thinks he can hang on like this? I think if he really IS innocent of what he is charged with, he should go to court and accept the legal system - after all, he's using the legal system to avoid going to trial!!

Just had the results of brain scan in for a very dear friend who has had a progressive brain disorder for the past 3 years. It was 3 years ago his family took him to their local GP who referred him to a neuro-specialist. The specialist interviewed him, examined him, and pronounced no brain or nervous disorder or atrophy. The back story is that my friend had had a motorcycle accident in the early 1970's, when a car had careered around a corner on the other side of the road and knocked him off his bike as he was innocently pootling along minding his own business. This was all in his medical notes. He recovered but he was never quite the same and 3-4 years ago his conditioned has slowly worsened. So again the GP referred him. Once again he was denied specialist treatment as he diagnosed with no disorder.

Now I know my friend very well and I know how he behaves, so I looked all the data up on the internet, and by organising all the various fragments I came to the conclusion that he had vascular dementia. This was 3 years ago remember. I put this to them and they went back to the NHS, who did the rounds of referrals, and this time they managed to obtain a brain scan. The scan revealed that he'd lost 10% of functioning brain matter, but that he wasn't suffering from anything else. But the family kept on asking for more tests. Even a private consultation revealed nothing wrong. Eventually, after lots of banging on various doors they managed to get a 2nd brain scan. It revealed Vascular Dementia, but too late for significant treatment. If he had had the particular scan 3 years ago he could have received treatment that would have made a difference.

That's the state of medical practice in this country for the average person. I wonder if they'd allow themselves to mis-diagnose the Queen?

Sorry to hear that and I know what you mean. My father in law went to his GP a year ago with back pain and feeling tired and was told it was a virus. Move forward to December when he finally gets a CT scan and it turns out he's got terminal cancer. We've just got to hope these incidents of misdiagnosis are rare. Unfortunately GPs are jacks of all trades but masters of none. Although it seems it was the specialists which let your friend down.

Muslim woman complains to Corbyn about being harassed and prevented from standing for councillor by Muslim men. Not suggesting this is Labour policy but this doesn't surprise me. I am concerned by plans to devolve power to large cities, because I think some will become very un-British in their outlook if they gain autonomy. This would be bad news for women in these societies and bad news for Britain as a whole if such behaviour is tolerated to the point of becoming the norm.
