It's understood that George Osborne may have had meetings or had a meeting with Rupert Murdoch before announcing £650M budget cuts on the BBC.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...eceded-announcement-of-bbc-cuts-10428769.html

We curtail the BBC at our peril. It's the independent broadcaster by which all others are judged. Make it fringe and weak and the quality of broadcast media in the UK will just fall into the dust.

I have no sympathy for you. I thought you were a manager with champions league ambitions ... something must have changed

To be fair, there is a lot of crap on the BBC, and perhaps some of it shouldn't be within the BBC's remit. I'm talking stuff like that show Prized Apart, the rubbish quiz shows they have on a Saturday night, the Voice (admittedly, it did lead to Bo Bruce, and she's pretty cool), etc.

In terms of good programmes on the BBC, there aren't that many genuinely good programmes I can think of: Doctor Who, The Apprentice, Dragon's Den, *cough*Some Girls*cough* And Pointless of Course.... And I guess Don't Tell the Bride and Snog, Marry, Avoid... But they're more light entertainment that I occasionally put on when there's nothing else on (same with Would I Lie To You and Room 101). The rest is a bit iffy except for the occasional good documentary.

And another problem with British TV, is that when it comes to drama, it's all basically crime drama. It's like it's the only genre people can think of is crime. New drama series come out? It'll be a crime drama.

Most good TV nowadays comes from America anyway: Game of Thrones, American Dad, Catfish (don't judge me), Breaking Bad, Family Guy, Glee (again don't judge me), the Middle, Futurama (even if those bastards at Fox keep cancelling it), The Simpsons

PL, what about the period dramas they do? What about the midwife one? Not all crime.

Period dramas don't seem to be on very often. Only ones I can think are The White Queen, Atlantis (which is kinda pushing the limits of the genre period drama), the Tudors (which was American...) and the Musketeers. BBC do seem to like their medical dramas... but I wasn't just referring to the BBC with that comment. I'm sure I could find hundreds of examples of crime, especially among mini-serieses.

My favourite comedy programme...doesn't matter how often I've seen it, I always end up shrieking with laughter.

She's a Olympic level judoka. Most of her wins have come via fast and violent arm severance. I say most because she only has one win via TKO. All her fights are finishes.

If you missed Wolf Hall, as you seem to have done, your thesis is incomplete. Watch it immediately, in its entirety, and then tell me the BBC isn't providing great drama series. I agree about Breaking Bad, GoT, etc. from America, and some of the shows Amazon have made, such as Vikings and Outlander, but given that the BBC is publicly funded, they do all right. Maybe what they should do is stop using Dave for repeats, and put some of the tacky but popular new stuff on there, so they benefit from the advertising revenue. Then the flagship channels can be used for the high quality dramas and sports, and the quizzes.
