After @marcusblackcat shared his sadness in missing the last game of the season for the first time since he was a bairn it got me thinking. What's your favourite Home & Away (no pun intended!) last game of the season ?? I reckon my favourite last home game was 1980 vs West Ham, they'd just won the FA Cup and we needed to win to get promoted. A 2-0 win saw us promoted and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Little Stan Cummins scored that day.. He was one of my early heroes!! Away game?? 2007 at Luton comes close... Crazy season under Keane ending with us winning the league. Old Trafford last season gotta top it all tho. What's yours ?!?
I was a long way away watching the mags vs villa match... The last 5 mins seemed like an eternity. Good call tho
It was amazing mate, the chelsea fans stayed behind and sang with us. I ended up in the Ivy House singing Petula Clark's Doon Toon with The Futureheads... Who, incidentally, support Man United... ****ers.
Beating Luton 5-0 under Keane to win the Championship. After such a rotten start to the season was amazing we even got promotion never mind top Memorable for Nyron's singing as well
Sort of related to Barry and David of the futureheads and i didnt know they supported man utd. Dont think they are into footy that much tbh.
I liked the first album. Hounds of love was mega, think it's one of those covers that near enough pushes the original, no mean feat considering how mega the bush is. From Sunderland... Supporting United. ****ing twats. The drummers new band are supposed to be pretty handy.
Nah, that's the impression I got. They were on camera at Old Trafford on Soccer AM and when interviewed said they supported them. If they were huge fans it would really grind but as you say they're casual fans and you can reluctantly forgive the for such treachery!
We were singing this in what is now Life of Riley..I was dressed in a kilt doing a highland jig to the music..

First album was manic as ****. Didn't rate the second at all, can't even remember it name but it's the one with skip to the end on it. But loved This Is Not the World. Not heard the others, fell in love with funk and soul and ****ed the indie off, it was getting **** anyway.
Do they??!! My friend used to go out with one of them. You don't get as many fake fans in the NE. Where I am now, everyone is MU, Liverpool, etc.
Another great last 'away' day was Notts County 1993. About 6 teams could have gone down and even tho we got beat we stayed up by the skin of our teeth. I drove up from Pompey with a few mates (SAFC, palace, Bris C, Spurs) and we couldn't get in the away end. We ended up getting into the family section and after I ran on the pitch after County scored their 2nd goal I got nicked. One of my mates tried to save the day by telling the copper.."you can't nick him... He's driving" !! It didn't help the matter ... Ha ha
Best last day of the season for me was May 9th 1973 at home to QPR - got beat 3 nil but nobody gave a f**k
I wouldn't say that like..There was a pitch invasion when Rodney marsh deliberately kicked the ball at the FA Cup and knocked it off its stand..
cannot remember that - I can remember the cup being knocked ower - it was on a table between the dugouts found this on the net but it depends what you believe http://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/may/19/seven-deadly-sins-football-sunderland-stan-bowles http://www.sunderlandecho.com/histo...0-qpr-3-frayed-tempers-in-last-game-1-6056161
Wasn't a great as far as the final outcome goes, but our last game against Cardiff where we had to win to stand a chance of going up.....and we did, but it wasn't enough. I will always remember how Sunderland fans took over 3 sides of Ninan Park, made me proud to be a mackem
It definitely got knocked off its perch, but I must admit that I was thinking it was either Bowles or Marsh who done it..There was definitely a small pitch invasion that stopped the game for a while, with the cup being knocked over and some very iffy decisions regarding QPR's goals being the straws that broke the camels back..
