I'm confused. This cup format used to be so settled. First round early to mid August. Embarrassing defeat. Contrive to get the result overturned and mysteriously get a bye into January's third round (which I assume is the final because it's always the last game in the cup). Now there's suddenly an extra third round coming up, fixture congestion and chaos. I wish the FA wouldn't keep breaking from the cup traditions.
****ing ridiculous,if Sandro's fit enough to play tonight why on earth hasn't he been starting in the league ? I know that he usually gets stretchered off after about 10 minutes, but he's still head and shoulders above any of the mutants playing in that position. I saw the article in the paper about his supposed stitch up,over the medical at Sporting. If this is the case and we knew about it,as is claimed, then this is all political games. We have taken a moral highground and deliberately not picked a player based on wages. If a player is still on our books and we are paying his wages, then surely if he's good enough he should be in the side. I don't like the way this whole business is being dealt with, but if he's not in the starting eleven Saturday, something is seriously amiss. I don't mind fielding an eleven that isn't the greatest if that's all you've got,but when your leaving out better players simply because of politically motivated reasons, then that I can't tolerate !
I am assuming, and it is only guess work on my part but JFH expects Sandro to be gone by the end of this window therefore not part of his plans and is playing his stayers.
Back from the game which I enjoyed with my friend Simon...there was also a man and a dog there too. It was a very select audience. Mostly uninspiring but have to say Kakay and Shadipo were really excellent. Col ....Kakay was playing in front of Bidwell. Bidwell and Perch were the backs El-k started as the number 10, he was dire. But first badly hurt his back...down for a couple of minutes..struggled to his feet, insisted on going on but appear to pull a tendon or Achilles in his leg about 2 min later...out for a while but won't be missed as long as we have the two kids Kakay and Shadipo. Directly El K went off we immediately got better and scored immediately By the time we had the 3 first team players on Luongo, Chery and BFG we were in control. We had 3 1 on 1 chances at the end to wrap it up..Good goalkeeping and bad misses caused it to be 2-1 Sandro took both chances very well...very sharp and hit like a rocket. He was pretty good, controlled (or maybe languid) and he did not get a second card...which actually showed real control. Would not be a disaster if he stayed... Only other question....Ted...were you there...were you behind me singing "there is only one Bobby Hazell" We are on a cup run....is this our year...will be 50 years since we won it? Would be nice
We may be showcasing him to offload him. Easy games makes him look better equals quicker offload. I'm with you though, if we're paying wages, he should be playing each week.
That is also my understanding. Plus, if he is injury prone, the less he plays the less risk of injury and "no sale".
Beth - thanks for an insider report. From other "just-back" reports, I have the impression that Shopido, Kakay and Borysiuk all impressed. You mentioned the former two, but what were your impressions of the debut of Ariel Borysiuk?
So Kakay's not a right-back after all. I hope we're going to sign one before the window closes. Did Cousins look better in the centre Beth? If indeed that's where he played - was it 4-3-3? EDIT: Just remembered Cousins wasn't playing. No wonder I couldn't work out the formation. Must have been 4-2-3-1 then?
I do fear anyone is deluded if they think this was anything but Sandro being placed in a shop window. Nothing about his time with us suggests he could be an asset this season.
