I agree with you that there should not have been a single ticket restriction on the initial sales, but we don't 'generally we take up to 3,000 fans to away games these days', we've averaged about half that amount this season.
Imagine the poor old Arsenal fans (I'm speaking figuratively as I don't actually care about them at all!) who had an allocation of 25,000 tickets to share amongst 45,000 Pass Holders!
The half that didn't get tickets could just go the year after when they reached the final again, the pain of following a big club!
Yes, I imagine Arsenal would have kept a note of who got tickets the first time and ensured those who didn't were first in the queue the year after. Some of our fans approach to the final was like one of those Stanley Holloway films where some naive Northerners go down to the capital in a charabanc and have all sorts of adventures in the sophisticated big city which they can spend the next year recalling. Why not? Rugby fans have done it for years.
Nope. Only a few left with restricted view. Not one ticket going on general sale by all accounts. Another ticket shambles on the cards then. Not as if TWS will be filling the home areas either. Plenty of tickets available in the home areas though. If you can keep quiet that is ?
Because TWS could allow us a bigger area / ticket allocation with better planning. When tickets can be sold and seats are left empty it is beyond stupid. Sadly a sign of the times nowadays.
I would think it is more to do with the police. They are a bigger bunch of twats than ours and ever since Bates won his argument about policing costs at games they are as obstructive as possible.
Fair point ^^^^ this. Whatever the reason/s it is a shambles. However, it will bring a smile to my face when I think of all those empty seats. Any Hull fan that desperate for a ticket and with a better view will have to go in the home area by stealth.
If you were planning on going with kids/teenagers then the family stand (central lower tier of the main stand) have adult tickets for £25 and the best view in the house, plus with it being the family area there will be little chance of trouble as long as you keep quiet.
Not great fun sat there with kids thinking if anything kicks off they will be involved though. Leeds stewards won!t be as soft as our lot either, and unlike ours will concentrate on away fans infringing ground regulations instead of ignoring them and throwing their weight around with home fans. No doubt our police liaison officer will be there filming any City fans in away areas and demanding the club ban these dangerous subversives.
I've sat in the home end at Elland Road a few times before (the curse of living in Leeds and knowing too many Leeds fans), respect where you are and you'll be fine. There's absolutely no reason they would ever know you were an away fan unless you give it away yourself, in which case don't blame the police or stewards blame yourself.
You're not kidding, Leeds stewards ejected a granddad and his ten year old grandson (home fans) for taking him to the toilet in a different part of the stand to the one his ticket was in, just because the lad was desperate. They refused to apologise for their ridiculous actions, despite the FSF getting involved.
So, you pay a fortune to sit among home fans hoping for a 0-0 draw? Otherwise if you jump up when City score you are rumbled and even if you are one of those we have so many of who sit there like dummies you will be rumbled for not jumping up when the home team score. Respect where you are? Blame yourself? What nonsense. We are supposed to abide by the regulations both home and away, yet away fans in home areas at the KC have sat in team colours and anyone objecting gets more grief from the stewards who refuse to do their job than the ones in breach of ground regulations. Naturally the same stewards will pounce on the slightest misdemeanour by home fans. They must have gone on the same ignore away fans but make sure you get some home fans to justify your presence. We have had fans defending the right of away fans to be in home areas as they have paid their money. No doubt those same fans would say any of our fans in away areas would be to blame for anything happening and basically asked for it by being there.
I know someone at a corporate do at Old Trafford see 2 blokes in a nearby box, dressed in suits and attending some function at about £600 per head, thrown out as stewards said their jumping up when Liverpool scored antagonised those in the (expensive) seats in front and could lead to trouble. Someone else I know went to a Leeds v Chelsea game as a guest of someone whose partner couldn't go. He saw a bloke escorted out "for his own safety" after receiving torrents of abuse and threats because he applauded a brilliant move which ended up with Chelsea hitting the bar. And this was in their best stand.
There aren't actually any boxes at Old Trafford, at least not ones in sight of the pitch. Their 'boxes' are are actually just like rooms in an office block and when it comes to match time you're escorted out to seats next to the Stretford End, alongside all the corporate Man United fans. I went in one in our first Premier League season and one of our lot got thrown out after 23 minutes when Cousin scored. To be fair, he did turn round to the Man United fans behind us with arms outstretched, shouting 'come on then'. They do warn you before you go out, that despite all the money you've paid, you need to respect the fact that you're sat in Man United corporate area and you will be ejected if you upset those around you. A month later, we couldn't get tickets for Anfield and looked at going corporate there as well, that included a meal at Reds Bar and seats in the Lower Centenary Stand, but we were warned that if we made it known that we were away fans, we'd probably get a beating quicker than they could eject us. We watched it in Weir Bar instead.
And that's precisely how we should police our own ground. I dont advocate violence at all but if some **** is going in the home end, often with colours on, and cheers when his team score then he deserves a clip.
Its really not hard to keep a lid on it if we score and stand and politely applaud if they do, I've done it many times myself, never been thrown out and never had any trouble. If you can't do that then don't go in the home end, luckily for us I can see this being the only game this season where its an issue.
