Funny think though Billy we went through a phase where all the loan players ended up as Internationals, not long ago. Townsend, Bannon, Livermore, Wickham, Butland, Barkley, ........
no probs, I should have been a bit clearer .. Oriol Rey signed today .. these young 'uns we are getting from Europe come with no compensation as they are not moving within their countries .. Scum got Pique this way, but Red Nose fcuked up giving him a free and stating he would never be a footballer Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all specialised in loading their Academies this way as it saves on compensation, and after three seasons they are classed as homegrown .. we may well uncover a few gems this way, and our Academy is being set up to work the European way .. Redders most definitely would be well out of place in the new Leeds Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Not really as they tend to move away from England for free after having a couple of years experience. It makes financial sense to the players and their agents as they can get a great deal regarding wages/signing on fees when returning to their own country. Pogba and Pique did exactly that and there was nothing scum could do to keep them. Same would have happened with Charlie Taylor if he had gone overseas...we would have got nothing for all our work developing him as a player. You might be right though as we seem to be signing these youngsters on 3/4 year deals but it's getting them to sign the next contract that is key if they prove to be successes.
let's be clear on Pogba, he was sold to Juventus for fcuk all because he was "not good enough" ... Red Nose publicly stated he was releasing Pique because he would never be a footballer ... these players didn't leave one of the biggest clubs in the world just because they could, they left because they were told they wouldn't make the grade I have yet to see a list of young foreign players who have left English clubs on a free and become stars having "used" the English clubs to learn and gain experience ... I don't believe that clubs are that naive in all honesty, and the kids know that the Prem is the league to make it in Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
To quote Red Nose at the time of Pogba leaving, " He signed a contract at Juventus a long time ago as far as I'm aware". He continued " It's disappointing I don't think he showed us any respect whatsoever". Then old sour grapes added " To be honest it's better that players who behave like that do so away from us ". Pique left for £5m because he had one year left on his contract and had clearly stated he was going back to Spain and would not sign a new deal. So they took what they could rather than get nothing in 12 months time, but he definitely forced the move. Much as Byram and Cook recently did with us by refusing to sign new deals. Doesn't really matter as who cares, but my point was that overseas youngsters are far more likely to leave for free as usually they prefer to go back to their own country.
understood ... add this caveat though: overseas youngsters are far more likely to leave on a free to go back to their own country if approached by one of the top clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, Bayern ... this will mean big wages and a glamour move ... youngsters will stay in England, even in the Championship rather than move to Real Betis, Lens, Stuttgart or Palermo because they know the money in England is still way better and if they can make it here they are set up forever Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Brexit won't come into anything .. imagine Prem clubs having to play ten British players every game, be like watching Crewe every week Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
