Unbelievably, both Vin's and FLT's kids seem completely normal. Goes to prove that genes only pay a small part
Just seen Dunkirk. Pretty good. Very intense. A lot of will he/won't he survive it moments. In a way there weren't any main characters just lots of stories to follow, and there wasn't any prolonged dialogue, but a lot of action.
I understand that the token American hero, who takes all the credit, doesn't make the usual appearance.?
No, a very British film. If like me you were ok with Harry Styles being part of the cast as long as he would die early on, you will be disappointed. Though he's not actually that bad. Unlike Mr Sheeran in GoT.
A critic pointed out that this was the first of recent major war films, dealing with British issues of WWII, where the heroes weren't soldiers from the USA. Often, in recent decades, war films have been tailored so that they will appeal to the American market. For example, U571, whilst a real humdinger of a war adventure, is a complete fabrication of historical facts. Admittedly, the producers of the film admitted to it in the end credits, but the cinema audience had long headed for the exits to avoid the traffic. I had no idea who Harry Styles was, but have since looked him up. Well, there's a selling point for various markets, I suppose.
I worry about how many people have warped ideas of history because of media. In the latest big war computer game Battlefield 1, which is set during WW1, I often find myself playing as a black German soldier, running around with an American machine gun.
Dunkirk, as VVD says, is spectacular. Go see it in the cinema though (or make sure you've invested in a brilliant surround sound system by the time it comes out).
There's always a very good pair of headphones and strapping a big bass speaker to your stomach area. Unlikely to annoy the neighbours that way. Thankfully, my neighbours are either deaf or don't mind, so my sound system can rumble the house and they still don't say anything.
Extraordinary film though TSS. I think you'd really enjoy it (if enjoy is the right word). Very different from the norm.
Yes, I've watched Mark Kermode's review: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod...hosts-captain-underpants-the-first-epic-movie My antennae always go up when I see that Christopher Nolan has directed a film. Never makes a dud.
Charlie Gard's parents have given up their legal fight as time has run out bearing in mind the latest scans. Have the greatest of sympathy for them, but sometimes just existing isn't enough....death can be a blessing. An Italian mother was saying that the treatment they wanted had helped her child survive with a similar condition to little Charlie....what did her child look like...the same as Charlie, but just bigger. Sometimes it is wrong to hold on...believing it is for your child's sake, when it is really for you. So sad.
I do think that they should be allowed to take him home to die in peace in their arms, though. As a family they've been through so much and having a judge tell them that Charlie can't go home just seems cruel.
I hope they will be able to as well....I think the fear was that they'd take him for treatment and possibly prolong his life and extend his suffering.
