http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...ews/saints-interested-in-phillips_217421.html Here we go...we are not even dead yet!
If we stay up he stays, if we go down he goes. The cold hard truth I'm afraid. We paid £5 million, he should be worth somewhere between £5 million and £10 million based on his performances in the Premier League. Worst case he goes, but we make money on him and have got some good performance out of him. Not the QPR norm.
Price would no doubt be influenced by how long he has left to run on his contract - any statto's out there?
From Wiki: "On 23 August 2013, Phillips signed for Queens Park Rangers on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee reported to be £5 million" So two years left, and now (I think he can just about be described as) a proven premiership player, he should show an eventual profit for us if we sell.
Been our star player since CR came in. Most assists of any premier league player since 2015 gotta be worth 8million upwards.
Hopefully, if we go down, we can persuade him to stay and win promotion with us. Surely, he is young enough to play ONE season in the Championship?
Second highest assists in the top 5 European leagues and a goal scorer too. Would think 8m is the minimum we would get for him.
He's done a few of those already and he must be thinking he's stepped up a level. There could be some loyalty to CR though and it might be more of a reason to stay if he's lacking in self-belief (which a commentator said of him the other day). It's difficult to disagree with Norway's view on this though.
It could be quite the revolving door again at Saints - good for their balance sheet though:- Nathaniel Clyne's £17m move to Man Utd CONFIRMED ahead of summer window please log in to view this image That is according to Daily Mirror journalist David McDonnell, who made the claim on the Red Devils' official TV channel. He said on MUTV: "From what I'm told, it's a done deal." The Saints are understood to want at least £17million for the newly-capped England international, with some reports claiming Javier Hernandez could be going the other way. If the deal is to go ahead, the 24-year-old would link up with former team-mate Luke Shaw, who arrived at Old Trafford last summer for £31m. Clyne recently revealed that he has shelved contract talks at St Mary's until the summer in order to concentrate on his football. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/570621/Nathaniel-Clyne-Man-Utd-Southampton Morgan Schneiderlin, Yannick Bolasie and Nathaniel Clyne are wanted by Premier League's big clubs... but who else is ready to make the step up to top flight's elite? Champions League-chasing clubs looking to hoover up talent Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all in the hunt for talent Southampton, Burnley and Everton could suffer at hands of top clubs http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...big-clubs-ready-make-step-flight-s-elite.html
Two seasons ago we could hardly give them away, so I guess it's progress of sorts to have clubs linked with our players.
We signed Phillips on a 4 year deal so he has 2 years left on his contract after this season. So we have zero pressure to sell this summer If Southampton were to offer something in the region of £5 million I would reject and refuse any further negotiation as it is such a derogatory offer considering that’s what we paid Blackpool for him. Starting point should be £10mmillion and negotiate from there. Even if we stay up we will be in the rare position for our club that clubs want to sign our players and we are not just simply trying to off load dead wood. Need to adjust our mindset
Ditto for SWP - we signed him almost 4 years ago on an eventual 4 year deal (3 + 1) and his cushy gig is almost up. His signing was a Big ask for us too. please log in to view this image Big ask: At the age of just 19, Ian Wright decided to adopt son Shaun, who was only two http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-childhood-left-father-treatment-stepdad.html
Should we go down the team that kicks off in August will be unrecognisable from the current team. Lots of youngsters I suspect.
I'm probably older than you but it was the norm. The great teams we had back in 76 and again in 82 disappeared. I know too well Gerry's back caused the major loss in 77, but generally we didn't retain our best. I will hate to see someone like Phillips go wherever we are next season. Col, you need to send all that about how he doesn't track back down south, just in case it bothers them.
Why would the saints spend 5-10mil when they produce players from there accadamy who was the last big signing for them?
