I can only say how I feel. When I seen him last season, I thought he was awful. He couldn't replace Kone or Kaboul so he will be back up for them. Moyes likes an attacking full back, who can get on the overlap and attack the box, see Baines and Coleman. We need somebody to compliment PVA, on the right side to give the team balance. Richards does not suit that role, so I'm assuming and hoping he will also be cover for us at RB and not first choice.
I think he could come good again, if he's shown faith and put alongside some good players in a stable, consistent back four. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a great season, but equally it wouldn't surprise me if he has a stinker.
I was not trying to be being superior or pretentious only that his lack of recent games may count against him bit like Johnson and Rodwell . He was a very decent player no arguments . Like I also said if Moyes wants him bring it on( he knows more about him than any of us) - onwards with Moyes Boys for me
I just don't see a place in the team for him, mate. I think everybody is agreed he won't be displacing Kone or Kaboul, and his style of play doesn't suit the type of right back Moyes is looking for. If he's a squad filler then fair enough. Still wouldn't be my choice, though.
I'm not sure either. I suppose the question is....Is he a step up from Jones ? A - Yes he is. And that is that, I reckon
There's probably players available for peanuts better than Jones. With wages you're probably looking at £10m all in for a player who right now represents a risk. It could go well, but if it doesn't people will be saying Shorty still hasn't learned his lesson.
I think it's worth the risk. The lad came into the scene looked like he could be very, very good, I'd just be sure to have the contract set up in our favour so if it goes tits up the club can get out, and if it doesn't we hold the cards to extend.
Watched Villa once or twice last season and was impressed with him playing at right back, he threw everything into it, while some of his team mates were busy with their hair styles, if anything he was trying too hard, give him a chance if arrives and hopefully we might be surprised.
I think he just needs a more 'settled' side to play in, as RB. He was the only player who gave a **** at Milli Vanilli
Its usually hope rather than excitement with our signings, I'm looking forward to the day when its the other way round, even thought it had, then what happened.
You're probably right, however, it's identifying those available better players. We have suggested to so many RB's over the last year or so and still we are no further forward. I'm happy with the gamble to be honest.
so covering all bases then T.E.L I reckon he could still be a great decent right back. I've never rated him at CB. All muscle and tank and a very reactive defender. Put him next to a leader maybe he'd be alright. Let him go RB where he can use his athletiscm to get up and down and where his lack of positional skills aren't as important.
at 5m too, thats a steal. When you hear things like 10m for tomkins, 12m for allen, 3-6m (depending what source) you read for Brad Smith!
Luke Shaw is worth every penny if Rahman is £20m The other two are crap though. The biggest blag was the other way, David Luiz for £50m. Jesus.
I am actually a big fan of David Luiz.... just not at CB. He's an odd one, he can be the best CB in the world one minute and such a clown the next. If he was consistent he would be so good. As it is, that is one of the greatest sells ever at 50m. Can't believe PSG were the biggest mugs to pay it. No idea why we bought rahman for 20m. He's fairly athletic but technically he's pretty bad (although his crossing looks alright). Hopefully he'll develop this year.
I must have missed that one minute where David Luiz was the best centre half in the world He's a clown. That game vs Germany in the World Cup was him at his best
