I havent been to a SJ game yet. Its to far and when we go that far we just go to Santa Cruz and go to the beach instead. If Sacramento gets an MLS team like they are trying to I will go to some games once in a while.
Probably the right decision financially to give the contract to Sky but wholly incorrect over the longer term if the MLS is looking attract interest from the UK. One of the terrestrial channels would been a far better destination for it as it will have either huge competition or total lack of interest on Sky. There may be some initial novelty value to see the American spin but let's face it how many people would tune in to watch Fleetwood Town v Chesterfield, because by the sounds of it that's about where the standard is? Not many, at least long term I would think. Whereas on terrestrial TV people have much less choice when it comes to watching a game of football, and I would guess that over the longer term that's where it would see the greater growth.
The strike has been avoided (it still has to be voted on but it will probably pass). They doubled the league minimum salary and added restricted free agency for those players who are 28 and have been a professional for 8 years (not necessarily only MLS experience). The contract runs for 5 years when the players will probably get true free agency.
I visit SJ at least twice a month on business but have yet to make an Earthquakes match. The proliferation of soccer-only stadiums in MLS (a good thing) has almost eliminated scheduling conflicts and are therefore scheduling fewer midweek matches. I am going to make it a point to attend a match in the Earthquake's new stadium this year, though. Looks like I'll be yelling and chanting against them this Saturday night, after all. Woo-hoo! I'm glad to see MLS getting some UK exposure. No one here pretends MLS is on par with the Prem but MLS plays an entertaining brand of football. It's an odd mixture of Latin American and European styles of play. Highlight shows are how I became a fan of Hull City, believe it or not. Maybe some participants here will gravitate towards an MLS side to support from afar. However, if they choose Houston I'll become their mortal enemy.
They say its the most tech friendly stadium in the world whatever thats supposed to mean. Cloud enabled (whatever that is), specific apps for fans at the game, renewable energy powered etc. Ill create an MLS match day thread so I can rub it into you when you lose (although it looks like SJ vs Dallas games have been pretty even over the years). Ill predict a 2-1 SJ victory with Wondo scoring both goals. Earthquakes vs. FC Dallas All-Time MLS Regular Season: 25-27-11 Home: 15-17-5 (49 GF, 31 GA) Away: 10-10-6 (37 GF, 33 GA) Shootout (1996-99): 4-3; Overtime (2000-03): 0-0-0; Playoffs: 0-0-0; US Open Cup: 0-0-0; U.S. Open Cup Play-In: 0-0-0 All-Time Scoring: San Jose – 86, FC Dallas – 64
The game starts at 5:30 pm my time so it should start at 1:30 am your time if you want to stay up and watch the game.
He did, sadly I moved to the west coast after he left the club so I cant go get an autograph. A Leicester player is a key defender for them and has been for the last couple seasons but that's about it for English players right now for them I think.
Here is the schedule for the weekends games for those who are interested in a particular team. Looking forward to the MLS games now thankfully on sky sports. With no summer football for europe the MLS should be agreat watch. Many well known names in the MLS now and Lampart and Gerrard soon to join in the fun.
Last season it was basically mid table Championship-League 1. I suspect this season it will basically be mid table Championship-bottom of the table Championship football. Its certainly better than the SPL for instance.
Northern League is better than SPL Some of us are going to start following it out of morbid curiosity! I hope somebody is paying you for doing a better marketing job than the ****nuts at our club.
It can be hit and miss some weeks the best games to watch today will probably be, FC Dallas vs SJ Earthquakes Houston Dynamo vs Columbus Crew Portland Timbers vs Real Salt Lake
