Andy Monkhouse has signed a one year contract with Vanarama Conference playoff runners up Grimsby Town.

Think they will come up sooner rather than later. I reckon it will be next season.

Good player, it was a shame to see him leave us. He'll be a key to Grimsby's chances next season.

Between the lines, I think Monkhouse may have expected more from DC than DC was prepared to reasonably offer. Even Grimsby have only offered him a year. I'm sure DC would have offered him a year, so maybe he was digging his heels for a longer contract at Rovers. He sounded a bit gutted.

Thought he was generous to Rovers in his comments, didn't slag us off as some would have done and I wish him and Grimsby well for next season

I'm not completely sure but I think he is 34 years of age and if so I would think a one year deal up front would realistically be the best that he could have wished for.

Surely DC would have offered a year as well. Cant imagine just a 6 month deal. I think it could be around appearance fee's. DC may have said may not get much game time due to age and pace but would be a useful squad member. Monkhouse wants 1st team football due to age etc and couldnt agree a deal. Thats my guess.

He was generous in his comments about Rovers. He obviously really wanted to stay here.

Shame but I wish him well - for me it isn't just about playing in the team with him, it is the experience he has and the way he put his influence on our young team - that will be missed as well.
