Bristol City fans set to delay purchasing a season ticket until next season's league is determined.

It is a case of waiting and seeing for many of the Ashton Gate faithful as their club continues the battle to fight off relegation.

A majority of fans who expressed an opinion in a poll run by the Post, say they will delay purchasing a season ticket until they know which division the Robins will be playing in next season.

The Championship club unveiled prices for the 2017/18 campaign last week and existing season card holders have two weeks in which to renew at special discounted prices.

Adults who secure their seat by Monday, April 3, will pay a bargain-basement £15 per game to watch their favourite team in action at Ashton Gate next season.

But 66 per cent of those who took part in our poll will wait until City’s fate is sealed one way or another before putting their hands in their pockets.

Lee Johnson’s side may have lost only once in six outings, but they are still embroiled in what is likely to be a protracted fight for Championship survival. And the outcome will by no means be determined prior to the deadline for early-bird prices.

More than 400 fans took part in the poll and just 34 per cent indicated they would renew regardless of which league City are in.

The inference is that the remaining 66 per cent will think twice before buying a season card to watch League One football from August onwards. All of which makes it financially imperative for the Robins to stay up.

Majority shareholder Steve Lansdown has described the prospect of relegation as “unthinkable” and it is easy to see why. Having targeted average crowds of 20,000 following the completion of the rebuilt 27,000 all-seat Ashton Gate last year, Lansdown has already witnessed a gradual fall in attendance as early-season optimism has evaporated amid a season of struggle.

When last City were relegated from the Conference in 2013, crowds fell to an average of around 13,500 the following season. In the event the Robins go down and are watched by fewer people next term, there would almost certainly be a corresponding cut in the wage bill, something that could persuade the highest earners to seek a move elsewhere.

Season ticket sales are currently at a club-record high of 13,600 and a strong finish to the current campaign will be required if City are to maintain those levels next term.

I wonder if Lansdown is taking notice now..?

Glad to hear you had a good break despite the elements Wiz !

Not sure what Lansdown was expecting given the crap that's been dished out at times this year on and off the field.

Did he expect to see 27,000 Season Tickets sold in advance with us on the precipice of L1 once again ?

I wont be renewing my season ticket irrespective of what division the team is in. Variety of reasons, Lee Johnson being one of them.

I won't be renewing my season card, I'm over the 'My hero local club need the support syndrome' I've suffered from that most of my natural, other reasons but Lee Johnson is my major objection.

The club will reap what they deserve for the continual and avoidable mistakes they make and it will hit them where it hurts.

What a fickle bunch we have!!
Even though because of work, I don't get down as much as in the past, my season ticket will still be renewed.
Question is.......was LJ the problem or was it JP? We seem to be doing better lately!
