I'm less concerned about M'Vila, we'll have him in January. How can we not have signed a striker? Poor lad. It's all on Defoe for the next 4 months now.
Valencia or Bony would have been great, we need the midfielders now to way in I reckon we are in trouble now. Way too many defenders as well that's about 12 we have !.
The squad announced last year. SUNDERLAND SQUAD NUMBERS: 1 Pantilimon, 2 Jones, 3 van Aanholt, 4 Bridcutt, 5 Brown, 6 Cattermole, 7 Larsson, 8 Rodwell, 11 Johnson, 12 Matthews, 13 Pickford, 14 Gomez, 15 Kaboul, 16 O’Shea, 17 Lens, 18 Defoe, 19 Graham, 21 M’Vila, 22 Coates, 23 Giaccherini, 25 Mannone, 26 Fletcher, 30 Buckley, 31 Beadling, 32 Stryjek, 34 T Robson, 37 Greenwood, 38 Mandron, 39 Honeyman, 40 Smith, 41 Watmore, 42 Agnew, 46 Gooch With the Jan and this window. We are stronger team wise. Still short on numbers but certainly better.
We are short a keeper, a striker and a Yann. We had better wrap all of the squad in cotton wool. We were aiming for 5 on the last day....got 2. I like the 2 we got but may need to go hunting for some freebies to make up the numbers.
To me, there is zero excuse to come out of the transfer window without another striker and a keeper. What the hell is Moyes thinking of ffs? He surely can't be pinning his hopes on a 17 yr old kid! We all know Defoe will now pick up an injury! Then the keeper situation...jesus christ! We signed 2 players yesterday. 2! In the last week alone we have let Lens go and lost Borini till well into the new year.
BSA may not have picked Defoe for England in case of injury. Although we are looking thin on the ground we need to stay calm or it'll put the players on edge and thats not good - blind faith time
I posted this on another thread but it's probably more relevant here... I'll probably get pelters for this but i also think watmore could be very effective in the "vardy role" if we play on the counter. The lad's vision / decision making is poor but he's rapid as **** and a decent finisher. If we can get him latching onto through balls / balls over the top on the break he could be lethal i think.
I hope to be proved wrong but Watmore hasn't got the striker instinct like Defoe, not many have to be honest. Any player we have is miles behind him. I'd like to see Asoro given a chance
A question for anyone who watches the younguns. All this talk of if Defoe gets injured then its Asoro. How far advanced a player over that other lad Maja? How do you compare them at this stage?
But why did Moyes not get a striker in that's my question. Apart from the risk of Defoe getting injured, to me we needed a bit power up front cos Defoe, Asoro and Whatmore are all small and lightweight. Just to have a dif dimension available to us if nothing else...
